''Cause of Death'' is the second album by American death metal band Obituary, released on September 19, 1990. ''Cause of Death'' remains a staple in death metal. The artwork was done by artist Michael Whelan. It is their first release with longtime member Frank Watkins on bass, and also their first and only album with guitarist James Murphy, previously of the group Death. Murphy did not contribute to songwriting as the riffs he showed to the band would end up appearing on Disincarnate's 1993 album ''Dreams of the Carrion Kind''. The cover art was to used in an H. P. Lovecraft collection, ''Lovecraft's Nightmare A''. It was originally supposed to be the cover of Sepultura's album ''Beneath the Remains'', which was released the year prior, Roadrunner Records send the original album cover of Beneath the Remains to Obituary. Obituary is an American death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida in 1984. They were a fundamental act in the development of death metal music, and are one of the most successful death metal bands of all time. To date, Obituary has released ten studio albums, and with the exception of their 1997–2003 split, they continue to perform live around the world. Initially called Executioner, the band changed its name to Xecutioner in 1986 to avoid confusion with the thrash metal band Executioner from Boston, and then changed its name once again to Obituary in 1988. Obituary's current lineup consists of vocalist John Tardy, drummer Donald Tardy, rhythm guitarist Trevor Peres, bassist Terry Butler, and lead guitarist Ken Andrews. The band has gone through several lineup changes, with the Tardy brothers and Peres being the only constant members. ''Beneath the Remains'' is the third studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released on April 7, 1989. It was their first release by Roadrunner Records. The album had improved production and songwriting compared to the band's previous albums.Kay (1997), from the liner notes of ''Beneath the Remains''. In time it would be acclaimed as a classic in the thrash metal genre. According to vocalist Max Cavalera, Sepultura had "really found heirstyle" on that album. In January 2013, ''Beneath the Remains'' was inducted into ''Decibel'' magazine's Hall of Fame, becoming the second Sepultura album to do so, the first being ''Roots''. Allen West (musician)
Allen West (born October 17, 1967, Brandon, Florida, United States) is an American death metal guitarist, who has been a member of Massacre, Obituary, Six Feet Under, Lowbrow, and Southwicked. He is considered to be a pioneering figure of the death metal genre in the 1980s. Musical career West formed the band Massacre in 1983, while he was still in high school. West's second band was Xecutioner, which laid down the foundation of Obituary. West helped co-found Six Feet Under with vocalist Chris Barnes of Cannibal Corpse in 1993. Initially a side project of Barnes, it became a full-time band in early 1995 after his departure from Cannibal Corpse. West remained with the band until late 1997, recording two albums and an EP in his tenure. In 1998 West formed Lowbrow band. Thomas Gabriel Fischer (born 19 July 1963), also known by his stage names of Tom G. Warrior and Satanic Slaughter, is a Swiss metal musician. He led the groups Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, and today is the frontman of the band Triptykon. Career Fischer (as "Tom Warrior"), along with Urs Sprenger (as "Steve Warrior") on bass and Pete Stratton (real name Peter Ebneter) on drums, formed the metal band Hammerhead in early 1982. Stratton was soon replaced by Bruce "Denial Fiend" Day (real name Jörg Neubart) and the band changed its name to Hellhammer the same year. Sadus is an American thrash metal band from Antioch, California, active from 1985 to 2015, and reunited in 2017. Igor Graziano Cavalera (born 4 September 1970) is a Brazilian musician, best known as the former drummer for the heavy metal band Sepultura, which he co-founded with his brother Max in 1984.
