Catherine Zara Raymond
Catherine Zara Raymond is an international maritime security expert. She is an Associate at the Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy Studies, based at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. Career Raymond is also a PhD student at King's College London, where she is writing her thesis on political Islam. Raymond worked as an analyst for the security consultancy, Control Risks, and as an associate research fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Maritime security is an umbrella term informed to classify issues in the Maritime transport, maritime domain that are often related to national security, marine environment, economic development, and human security. This includes the world's oceans but also regional seas, territorial waters, rivers and ports, where seas act as a “''stage for geopolitical power projection, interstate warfare or militarized disputes, as a source of specific threats such as piracy, or as a connector between states that enables various phenomena from colonialism to globalization''”. The theoretical concept of maritime security has evolved from a narrow perspective of national naval power projection towards a buzzword that incorporates many interconnected sub-fields. Corbett Centre For Maritime Policy Studies
The Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy Studies is a policy think-tank which conducts research and teaching on issues related to maritime security. History The Corbett Centre for Maritime Policy Studies was launched on 17 September 2007 by Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, Royal Navy. The centre aims to promote the understanding and analysis of maritime history and policy and to provide a forum for the interaction of academics, policy-makers and practitioners. The Corbett Centre takes its name from Sir Julian Corbett who was a prominent British naval historian and geostrategist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, whose works helped shape the Royal Navy's reforms of that era. Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC) is a British military academic establishment providing training and education to experienced officers of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, Ministry of Defence Civil Service, and serving officers of other states.
