Caspar Erasmus Duftschmid
Caspar (or Kaspar) Erasmus Duftschmid was an Austrian naturalist and physician who made significant contributions to entomology, especially Coleoptera. He was born in Gmunden on 19 November 1767 and died in Linz on 17 December 1821. His best-known work, introducing many new genera and species is ''Fauna Austriaca. ''Chrysolina'' is a large genus of leaf beetles in the subfamily Chrysomelinae. Most species are distributed in Europe, Asia and Africa with a small number of species inhabiting North America (including introduced European ones) and introduced species in Australia. The species ''Chrysolina cerealis'' and '' C. graminis'' are protected in the United Kingdom. In biology, a species is the basic unit of classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity.
