Casa-Museu Marta Ortigão Sampaio
The Casa-Museu Marta Ortigão Sampaio (Marta Ortigão Sampaio's House Museum) is a small museum located in the city of Porto, Portugal. Marta was born in Porto into an upper-class family in end of 19th century, her father being a prominent intellectual, Vasco Ortigão Sampaio. She never actually lived in this house; her husband died prematurely during the construction of the house. Instead, she remained in the neighboring city of Matosinhos and became a collector of art in the vibrant bourgeois environment of Porto of the 19th century. Matosinhos, Porto, Portugal () is a city and a municipality in the northern Porto district of Portugal, bordered in the south by the city of Porto (8 km from the city centre). António Carvalho De Silva Porto
António Carvalho da Silva (11 November 1850 – 1 June 1893), known as Silva Porto, was a Portuguese people, Portuguese naturalist painter. Biography Born in Porto, he studied there under João António Correia and Tadeu de Almeida Furtado, then continued his studies in Paris and Rome. While in Paris he exhibited his work in the Salon (Paris), Salon and in the Exposition Universelle (1878), World's Fair of 1878. In Paris, he studied with his friend João Marques de Oliveira, where they were pupils of Adolphe Yvon and Alexandre Cabanel. They became followers of the Naturalist school of painting, naturalist Barbizon School, and brought the new school of painting to Portugal, when they returned in 1879. Silva Porto become one of the most acclaimed naturalist painters of his generation, showing the heritage of Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Charles-François Daubigny. Maria Aurélia Martins de Sousa (June 13, 1866 – May 26, 1922) was a Portuguese painter. Biography She was born in Valparaíso, Chile, the fourth of seven children to Portuguese emigrants António Martins de Sousa and Olinda Peres. The family lived in Brazil and Chile before moving back to Porto, Portugal in 1869, when she was three years old. They lived in the Quinta de China near the Douro River in a home bought by her father before he died in 1874, when she was eight years old. She was sister of the painter Sofia Martins de Sousa. At the age of sixteen she began taking lessons with António da Costa Lima and painted her first self-portrait. In 1893 she began studies at the Fine-Arts Academy of Porto, where she was a pupil of João Marques de Oliveira, who greatly influenced her style. João Joaquim Marques da Silva Oliveira (23 August 1853 – 9 October 1927) was a Portuguese painter in the Naturalist style. Biography Oliveira was born in Porto. In 1864, when he was only eleven, he entered the . Five years later, he enrolled in the history painting course taught by João António Correia and graduated in 1873. For the next six years, he lived in France with his colleague António da Silva Porto while they studied at the École des Beaux-arts under Alexandre Cabanel and Adolphe Yvon. While living there, they also made study trips to Belgium, England, the Netherlands and Italy.
