Terrorism In Denmark
Terrorism in Denmark refers to terrorist attacks carried out in Denmark or by people connected to Denmark. Like other countries Denmark increased its focus on defending against terrorist attacks after the September 11 attacks in New York in 2001. The September 11 attacks led to strengthened laws in a number of areas. 31 May 2002 the parliament of Denmark (Danish: Folketing) approved anti-terror legislation with the aim of preventing terrorism in Denmark and internationally. The new legislation aligned with the definitions of terrorism which were in use by the European Union and the United Nations. Ringsted Terror Plot
The assassination of ASMLA leadership was allegedly an Iranian plot which took place in October 2018 when a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent was arrested and suspected of having planned Iranian intelligence operations in Denmark. Both the Norwegian PST and the Danish PET also suspected the man to take part in the planning of an alleged assassination against the leader of the Iranian group Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz. He was arrested in Gothenburg the 21 October 2018. Denmark called for EU sanctions against Iran as a result. Tehran denied the allegation and raised suspicion over the timing of the incident, saying that the plot is devised to damage Iran-Europe relations at a critical time. 2016 Copenhagen Terror Plot
The 2016 Copenhagen terror plot was foiled in November 2016 when a Syrian refugee Dieab K. tried to enter Denmark, but was refused entry and sent back to Germany where he was apprehended and found to be carrying bomb making materials and knives. The perpetrators 21-year-old Syrian refugee Dieab K. Dieab K. arrived in Germany in the summer of 2015 as a refugee from Syria. After his arrival he became radicalized and studied material from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. He had travelled via Turkey, Greece, Serbia and Austria to Saarbrücken in Germany. After being refused entry into Denmark, his backpack was confiscated by the authorities and he continued by train to the refugee shelter in Biberach, where he was shortly thereafter apprehended. The Kundby Case
The Kundby case was a 2016 plan to bomb two schools in Denmark, including a Jewish school in Copenhagen. The plan was made by a 15-year-old Danish girl from Kundby, Denmark named Natascha Colding-Olsen who had converted to Islam and became an enthusiastic supporter of jihad and of ISIS. The police found chemicals to create a bomb in her home in Kundby. Background 15-year-old Natascha Colding-Olsen planned to build a bomb to blow up two schools in Denmark: Sydskolen in Fårevejle (near Holbæk), which she previously attended, and Carolineskolen, a Jewish school in Copenhagen. DR (), officially the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. 2015 Copenhagen Shootings
On 14–15 February 2015, three separate shootings occurred in Copenhagen, Denmark. In total, two victims and the perpetrator were killed, while five police officers were wounded. The first shooting took place on 14 February at a small public afternoon event called "Art, Blasphemy and Freedom of Expression" at the Krudttønden cultural centre, where an armed gunman killed one civilian who tried to stop him and wounded three police officers. 30 to 40 people attended the event, amongst whom were the Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who was among the key speakers, and François Zimeray, Ambassador of France in Denmark, who opened the seminar with his speech just before the attack took place. Hotel Jørgensen Explosion
The explosion at Hotel Jørgensen was a minor explosion inside of the discounts and allowances, discount hostel of the same name in central Copenhagen, Denmark. The explosion happened at 1:23 pm on 10 September 2010. No fatalities were recorded. The only injured person was the one-legged Chechnyan-Belgium, Belgian bomber Lors Doukaiev, who was caught in a nearby park, Ørstedsparken, following the explosion, but only identified several days later.
