Kyungpook National University (경북대학교, abbreviated as KNU or Kyungdae, 경대) is one of ten Flagship Korean National Universities representing Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongbuk Province in South Korea. It is located in the Daegu Metropolitan City, which used to be the capital city of the Gyeongbuk Province, South Korea before being separated from the mother province. Establishment Kyungpook National University was founded on September, 1946 by upgrading the Colleges of Education, Medicine and Agriculture in Daegu to the National College. In October, 1951, Colleges of Education, Medicine, Agriculture, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Law and Political Sciences combined into Kyungpook National University. Other departments including Engineering and Dentistry were established sequentially to create what is now known as Kyungpook National University. Won-hwa Hong
Won-hwa Hong () is an engineer, professor, and university administrator in South Korea. As a professor in the Department of Architectural and Civil Engineering at Kyungpook National University (KNU), he took office as the 19th President of KNU, South Korea’s largest national university, in 2020.He has also served as the President of the Korean Council for University Education since April 2022. Early life and education Hong was born in Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, and later moved to Daegu. Gyeongsangbuk-do
North Gyeongsang Province ( ko, 경상북도, translit=Gyeongsangbuk-do, ) is a province in eastern South Korea. The province was formed in 1896 from the northern half of the former Gyeongsang province, and remained a province of Korea until the country's division in 1945, then became part of South Korea. Daegu was the capital of North Gyeongsang Province between 1896 and 1981, but has not been a part of the province since 1981. In 2016, the provincial capital moved from Daegu to Andong. Shi-Chul Lee
Shi-Chul Lee (; born 1963) is a professor and university administrator in South Korea. He was a two-time Fulbright Visiting Fellow, affiliated with Yale University (2017–18) and with the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2009–10). Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU; ) is a public research university in Shanghai, China. The university is funded by the Ministry of Education of China. The university was established on April 8, 1896 as Nanyang Public School (南洋公學) by an imperial edict.
