Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance
The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A; ) is a big tent political alliance of 28 political parties in India led by the Indian National Congress. The primary objective of the alliance is to defeat the ruling National Democratic Alliance government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Indian general elections. Etymology The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, commonly known by its backronym I.N.D.I.A., is an opposition front announced by the leaders of 28 parties to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The name was proposed during a meeting in Bengaluru and was unanimously adopted by the 28 participating parties. While some sources attribute the suggestion of the name to Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Indian National Congress (INC), others mention that it was suggested by Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and chief minister of West Bengal. United Progressive Alliance
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is a centre-left political alliance of predominantly left-leaning political parties in India. It was formed after the 2004 general election with support from left-leaning political parties when no single party got the majority. UPA ruled India from 2004 till 2014. The largest party in UPA is Indian National Congress (INC). History 2004–2008 UPA was formed soon after the 2004 general elections when no party had won a majority. Rahul Gandhi ( ; born 19 June 1970) is an Indian politician and a member of the Indian Parliament, representing the constituency of Wayanad, Kerala in the 17th Lok Sabha. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) is a secular, nationalist Indian political party formed in 2022 under the leadership of Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray. It was allotted a new symbol by the Election Commission, separate from the main Shiv Sena. It is now one of two separate factions, the other being the Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena. Nitish Kumar (born 1 March 1951) is an Indian politician, who is serving as Chief Minister of Bihar since 22 February 2015, having previous held the office from 2005 to 2014 and for a short period in 2000.
