Galgos de Tijuana (English: ''Tijuana Greyhounds'') are an American football team based in Tijuana, Mexico. The Galgos compete in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), the top American football league in Mexico. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Caliente. History On 9 November 2021, LFA commissioner Alejandro Jaimes announced a franchise in Tijuana would be joining the Reyes de Jalisco as one of the two expansion teams ahead of the 2022 season. The Galgos de Tijuana were established on 17 November, revealing their name, logo and uniforms. The project was undertaken in part by Grupo Caliente, owners of Club Tijuana. Guillermo Ruiz Burguete was announced as the first head coach while wide receiver Luis Araujo was their "franchise player". The first tryout was held at the Tijuana campus just a few days later, with over 100 player attending. 2023 LFA Season
The 2023 LFA season is the eight season of operation (seventh season of play) of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), the top American football league in Mexico. The regular season began on 4 March and will end on 14 May, with the playoffs beginning on 20 May and ending with the Tazón México VI, on 10 June in Chihuahua. Preseason events Expansion Three new teams joined the league for the 2023 season: Caudillos de Chihuahua (based in Chihuahua City), Jefes de Ciudad Juárez (based in Ciudad Juárez) and Reds de la Ciudad de México (based in Mexico City). ''Zeta'' is a Mexican magazine published every Friday in Tijuana by Choix Editores. ''Zeta'' is distributed primarily in Baja California, in the cities of Tijuana, Tecate, Rosarito, Ensenada, and Mexicali. It was founded in 1980 by Jesús Blancornelas, known as "the spiritual godfather of modern Mexican journalism", along with Héctor Félix Miranda and Francisco Ortiz Franco. The magazine regularly runs exposés on corruption in local and federal governments as well as on organized crime and drug trafficking, resulting in numerous threats and attacks against its staff. Félix was murdered in 1988 by bodyguards of politician Jorge Hank Rhon, while Ortiz was assassinated in 2004, apparently for his coverage of the Tijuana Cartel. Terrance Tyrone Williams (born September 8, 1989) is an American football wide receiver for the Zappers of Fan Controlled Football (FCF). Trevone Dequan Boykin (born August 22, 1993) is an American football quarterback for Galgos de Tijuana of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA). He played college football at Texas Christian University (TCU) and was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Early years Boykin attended West Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas, where he was a letterman in football and track.
