Europe's Strongest Man
Europe's Strongest Man is an annual strength athletics competition which began in 1980. The event is held in various locations throughout Europe, and features exclusively European strongman competitors. Mariusz Pudzianowski holds the record for most wins with 6 titles. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson holds 5 titles, Geoff Capes, Riku Kiri, Zydrunas Savickas each hold 3 titles & Jón Páll Sigmarsson, Jamie Reeves, Manfred Hoeberl, Jouko Ahola each hold 2 titles. As of 2010, the Europe's Strongest Man contest has become a part of the Giants Live season of annual grand prix events. Richard Slaney
Richard Charles Slaney (born 16 May 1956) is a male British discus thrower who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics and strongman competitor, notable for being a repeat winner of the Britain's Strongest Man title. At the UK Athletics Championships he won in 1979, ranked second in 1977 to 1978, and was third in 1980. He also came third in the shot put in 1980. Biography Slaney was born in Redhill, Surrey. As a sportsman he was foremost a field athlete specialising in the discus. However, whilst actively pursuing this sport, he did compete as a strength athlete and won the Britain's Strongest Man competition in 1980 and 1982. Ted van der Parre (born 21 September 1955) is a former strongman from the Netherlands, who won the World's Strongest Man contest in 1992 and was 4th in 1991. He also participated in 1994 when he finished 8th, having to drop out after the second event due to a calf injury. Henning Thorsen
Henning Thorsen (born October 20, 1959) was a strongman competitor from Denmark. Thorsen was a renowned powerlifter, winning his country's superheavyweight championships 5 times. He also won Denmark's Strongest Man six times from 1984, 1987 to 1989, 1991 and 1992. Thorsen participated in the World's Strongest Man finals of 1990, 1991 and 1992. Mark Higgins (athlete)
Mark Higgins (born 16 May 1963) was one of the world's leading strongman competitors, having won the World Strongman Challenge on two occasions, and was the British Muscle Power Champion on four occasions. Previously, he was an international discus thrower and had been a sailor and basketball player at a high level. Sporting career Mark was renowned as a great all-rounder. Mark Higgins threw the discus internationally for Great Britain. Ab Wolders (born 10 June 1951) is a former strongman and world champion Powerlifter from the Netherlands. He was runner-up at the World's Strongest Man competition on two occasions, placing second to Jón Páll Sigmarsson in 1984 and to Jamie Reeves in 1989. He finished 3rd at the World's Strongest Man games in 1986, 4th in 1988, 1st at Europe's Strongest Man in 1987 and was twice Strongest man of the Netherlands.
