Czech Republic National Rugby Union Team (sevens)
The Czech Republic national rugby sevens team is a minor national sevens side. History Their most notable achievement to date was in 2001, when they won the Bowl final of the Sri Lanka Sevens. Sri Lanka Sevens : European Championship The Czechs made their first European Championship appearance at Heidelberg in 2002, where they finished 11th out of a possible 12. In 2003, when the final tournament was again at Heidelberg, they finished 10th. The following year saw the tournament, which also doubled as qualifiers for the 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens, at Palma de Majorca in Spain, with the team claiming the Shield after beating Poland 17-5. Sri Lanka Sevens
The Sri Lanka Sevens is an annual international rugby sevens tournament held in Sri Lanka. Sponsored by telecommunications provider Dialog Axiata, Dialog, the event has been part of the Asian Sevens Series since 2015. It was founded in 1999 as the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7s. For ten seasons from 1999 to 2008, the tournament was hosted by the Kandy Sports Club (rugby), Kandy Sports Club at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy. National men's teams from Asia and Europe were regular competitors. The event moved to Colombo for the 2009 and 2010 seasons after the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union formed a partnership with the Namal Rajapaksa#Tharunyata Hetak, Tharunyata Hetak youth organisation to organise the Sri Lanka Sevens tournament. The international team format was replaced in 2011 by the Carlton Super Sevens series, a competition featuring ten domestic Sri Lankan franchises. ARC Iuridica Prague is a Czech rugby club based in Prague. History Early years The club was founded in 1956. It started when Zdeněk Sláma, a former Czechoslovak international, joined the Department of Physical Education at the Charles University in Prague. He began teaching rugby as an optional physical education subject. In 1959 they took on the Law School and the Faculty of Nuclear Physics in an intra-university tournament to determine the university champions. 1971 saw them undertake their first overseas tour to Moscow, losing all three matches played; 0-54 and 3-30 to MAI and 3-40 to MVTU. RC Bystrc is a Czech rugby club in Brno. As the name implies, they are based in the Bystrc district of the city. They currently play in the 1. Liga ragby XV, having won the 1. Liga ragby XV in 2008. RC Sparta Prague is a Czech Republic, Czech Rugby union, rugby club based in Prague. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV and are the second oldest club in the Czech Republic after RC Slavia Prague, Slavia Prague. The club forms part of the Sparta Prague sports network. History Early years The club was officially founded on 28 August 1928, with the first coach being Frenchman Andrée Cannellas. Their first match was on 28 April 1929 against VŠ sport Brno. Later on in 1929 they took on fellow Prague side Slavia Prague, the latter prevailing 23–3. They did however manage to beat Slavia 8-0 not too long afterwards.
