ARC Iuridica
ARC Iuridica Prague is a Czech rugby club based in Prague. History Early years The club was founded in 1956. It started when Zdeněk Sláma, a former Czechoslovak international, joined the Department of Physical Education at the Charles University in Prague. He began teaching rugby as an optional physical education subject. In 1959 they took on the Law School and the Faculty of Nuclear Physics in an intra-university tournament to determine the university champions. 1971 saw them undertake their first overseas tour to Moscow, losing all three matches played; 0-54 and 3-30 to MAI and 3-40 to MVTU. Recent history On 7 November 2009, an old boys tournament was held in Prague in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of club founder Zdeněk Sláma. The club's old boys took on Old Boys Prague and the Moravian Eagles. Rugby union, commonly known simply as rugby, is a close-contact team sport that originated at Rugby School in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. Czechoslovakia National Rugby Union Team
The Czechoslovakia national rugby union team was the national rugby team of Czechoslovakia, before the country was split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They participated in qualifiers for the 1991 Rugby World Cup, but did not qualify. History A Czechoslovak international team including players from an Austrian club called Wiener Amateure as well as players from the Slavia Bratislava club first played against Romania in 1927, but the match is seen as unofficial, since the Czechoslovak Rugby Union was only formed in 1928. They were captained by one František Ruber, who incidentally was a very good friend of Ondřej Sekora. Their first official match was against Germany in Leipzig in 1931. Pavel Telička (born 21 August 1965) is a Czech lobbyist, politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from the Czech Republic. He previously served as European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection from May 2004 to November 2004. He was a member of ANO 2011, part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, until 2017 when he quit amid disagreements with leader Andrej Babiš.
