Cymdeithas Lyfrau Ceredigion
Cymdeithas Lyfrau Ceredigion (''CLC'') was a Welsh publisher, established in 1954, specialising in books of interest to Ceredigion, and Welsh language children's books, including adaptations and original works. Cymdeithas Lyfrau Ceredigion bought the ''Welsh Teldisc Ltd'' c. 1974. Some of the publisher's most popular books included those based on Sali Mali and her friends, a children's character originally created by author Mary Vaughan Jones and illustrated by Rowena Wyn Jones. Cymdeithas Lyfrau Ceredigion came to an end in 2009, when it was bought out by another publisher, Gwasg Gomer. Ceredigion
Ceredigion ( , , ) is a county in the west of Wales, corresponding to the historic county of Cardiganshire. During the second half of the first millennium Ceredigion was a minor kingdom. It has been administered as a county since 1282. Ceredigion is considered a centre of Welsh culture and just under half of the population can speak Welsh according to the 2011 Census. The county is mainly rural, with over of coastline and a mountainous hinterland. The numerous sandy beaches and the long-distance Ceredigion Coast Path provide views of Cardigan Bay. Sali Mali
Sali Mali is a popular Welsh children's book and television character, originally created by author Mary Vaughan Jones and illustrated by Rowena Wyn Jones during the 1960s and 1970s. Many Welsh-speaking children learnt to read by reading Sali Mali books. Books Following the death of Mary Vaughan Jones, many of her original books were re-published. Mary Vaughan Jones
Mary Vaughan Jones (28 May 1918–April/May/June 1983) was a celebrated Welsh children's author and schoolteacher. She was born at 'Firs Cottage', Maenan near Llanrwst in 1918, and died in the Rhuddlan area, Clwyd in 1983. Jones authored approximately 20 books, contributing regularly to children's literature in Wales, and the magazines of the Urdd. Many of her books have been re-published by Gymdeithas Lyfrau Ceredigion. Many new books are based on her characters, for example: ''Sali Mali a'r Ceffyl Gwyllt'', Dylan Williams, 2006. Various children's television programmes and merchandise connected to her characters have also been produced by S4C. Gwasg Gomer
Gomer Press (Welsh: ''Gwasg Gomer'') is a family printing (and formerly publishing) company based in Llandysul, west Wales. It was the largest publishing house in Wales. History The company was first established in 1892 and began as a general store and printer; it is owned by the same family to this day. Jonathan Lewis, the great grandson of the company's founder, became managing director in 1995. In September 2019, it was announced that Gomer would be closing their publishing arm to focus on printing. Its 55 employees were retained but would no longer publish new titles, of which it produced 36 in 2018. This marked the end of 66 years of publishing. Emily Huws
Emily Huws (born 3 March 1942) is a Welsh language children's author. She is a recipient of the Mary Vaughan Jones Award. Biography Huws was born in Tyddyn Llwyni, Caeathro, Caernarfon, where she still lives today. Huws was educated at Ysgol Gynradd Waunfawr, Caernarfon Grammar School and Bangor University. As well as writing original works, Huws also produces adaptations. One of her latest adaptations into Welsh includes ''Y Bachgen Mewn Pyjamas'', published by Gwasg Carreg Gwalch in September 2009, which is an adaptation of John Boynes ''The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas''. Rhiannon Ifans
Rhiannon Ifans (born 1954) is a Welsh academic specialising in English, Medieval and Welsh literature. She was an Anthony Dyson Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, in University of Wales Trinity St. David. She twice won a Tir na-n-Og prize for her work and won the literary medal competition at the Welsh Eisteddfod, for her 2019 debut novel, ''Ingrid,'' which was chosen for the Welsh Literature Exchange Bookshelf (for translation abroad at the 2019 Frankfurt Book Fair). Archives Wales is a web resource that allows cross-searching of Welsh archive collections. It was founded in 1995 as Archives Council Wales and was renamed to Archives and Records Council Wales (ARCW) in 2004.
