Curt Berglund
Curt Berglund (30 August 1923 – 3 April 2003) was a Swedish former International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) executive. He served as the IIHF's Minister of Finance before retiring and serving as Tournament Chairman for the 1998 IIHF World Championship and 2001 IIHF World Championship Pool B tournament. Although he died before his induction, Berglund was honored posthumously into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2003 as a builder. Career In 1972, Berglund was elected to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association board of directors and later became a board member, chairman, and treasurer with the Stockholm hockey club AIK IF. In 1975, Berglund joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) as a treasurer and he worked with the organization until 1990 as their Minister of Finance. While working for the IIHF, Berglund served as the Swedish delegate while dealing with the 1987 Ice Hockey World Championships controversy regarding Sweden's gold medal win. 1987 Ice Hockey World Championships
The 1987 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 52nd such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was also the 63rd European Championships. Teams representing 28 countries participated in four levels of competition. In the Division A Championship held 17 April to 3 May in Vienna, Austria, each team played each other once in the preliminary round. The four best placed teams then played each other once in a championship round and, unlike the relegation round, the first round of results were not counted. Sweden won the gold medal for the fourth time and the Soviet Union won their 25th European title. In the European Championships, only the games of the first round between European teams counted. Switzerland was demoted to Division B. Sweden's victory was a controversial one. IIHF Hall Of Fame Inductees
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland, and has 83 member countries. The IIHF maintains the IIHF World Ranking based on international ice hockey tournaments. Rules of play for IIHF events differ from hockey in North America and the rules of the National Hockey League (NHL). Decisions of the IIHF can be appealed through the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The IIHF maintains its own hall of fame for international ice hockey. The Swedish Ice Hockey Association ( sv, Svenska Ishockeyförbundet (SIF)) in Swedish, is an association of Swedish ice hockey clubs. It was established in Stockholm on 17 November 1922 by representatives from seven clubs. Before then, organized ice hockey in Sweden had been administered by the Swedish Football Association. In 1920, Sweden became a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). In addition to ice hockey, SIF is also responsible for inline hockey.
