Cagnes-sur-Mer (, literally ''Cagnes on Sea''; oc, Canha de Mar) is a French Riviera town in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Antoine-Hippolyte Cros (10 May 1833 – 1 November 1903) was a French surgeon and pretender to the throne of the defunct Kingdom of Araucanía and Patagonia. Personal Antoine-Hippolyte Cros was born in Lagrasse, France, on 10 May 1833, to the philosopher Simon Charles Henry Cros (1803–1876) and Josephine Thor. He was the grandson of grammarian Antoine Cros (1769–1844). He was also the brother of the poet and inventor of the phonograph, Charles Cros (1842–1888) and the painter and sculptor Henry Cros (1840–1907) ( :fr: Henry Cros). Antoine-Hippolyte was married in Paris on 5 March 1856 to Leonilda Méndez de Texeira, an aristocratic lady of Portuguese origin. Charles Cros or Émile-Hortensius-Charles Cros (October 1, 1842 – August 9, 1888) was a French poet and inventor. He was born in Fabrezan, Aude. Cros was a well-regarded poet and humorous writer. As an inventor, he was interested in the fields of transmitting graphics by telegraph and making photographs in color, but he is perhaps best known for being the first person to conceive a method for reproducing recorded sound, an invention he named the Paleophone. CROS Hearing Aid
A contralateral routing of signals (CROS) hearing aid is a type of hearing aid that is used to treat a condition in which the patient has no usable hearing in one ear and minimal hearing loss or normal hearing in the other ear. This is referred to as single sided deafness. The CROS hearing aid takes sound from the ear with poorer hearing and transmits to the ear with better hearing. The goal of this device is to give the patient two-sided hearing when true bilateral hearing is not possible. The CROS system is an alternative to traditional unilateral hearing aid fittings in which the patient receives no information from the side with hearing loss. Most systems are now wireless and are either behind the ear or custom built in-the-ear systems. These wireless systems have replaced earlier wired units which were bulky and rather fussy.
