Croce Taravella
Croce Taravella (born 1964 in Polizzi Generosa) is an Italian painter. Biography Croce Taravella was born in 1964 in Polizzi Generosa, in the Metropolitan City of Palermo on the island of Sicily. Taravella studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo ( Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo). Between 1983 and 1984, curator and art dealer Lucio Amelio, who introduced Taravella to members of the transavanguardia, as well as Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Robert Rauschenberg, Nino Longobardi, and Mimmo Paladino. In the 1990s he moved to Rome where he worked as a production designer for RAI. In 2011, he participated in the Italian Pavilion curated by Vittorio Sgarbi at the 54th Venice Biennale. Polizzi Generosa ( Sicilian: ''Pulizzi'') is a town and ''comune'' in the Metropolitan City of Palermo on the island of Sicily, southern Italy. The town sits in the hills at above sea level. History The site of Polizzi shows signs of human occupation dating to the 6th century BC, with archaeological finds including coins from Himera, Carthaginian remains and a Hellenistic necropolis. In the 4th century it was a Carthaginian fortress occupied by mercenaries from Campania. The town probably developed as a population centre in the late Middle Ages, growing around the castle built by the Norman Count of Sicily Roger I in 1076. Mimmo Paladino (born Paduli, 18 December 1948) is an Italian sculptor, painter and printmaker. He is a leading name in the Transvanguardia artistic movement and one of the many European artists to revive Expressionism in the 1980s. Biography Paladino was born on 18 December 1948 in Paduli, Campania, but grew up and trained in Benevento, Italy. From 1964 until 1968, he attended Liceo Artistico di Benevento. He made his debut in 1968 with a solo exhibition at the Galleria Carolina in Portici in Naples. Here he was presented by Achille Bonito Oliva, who was also present for the monographic show at Enzo Cannaviello's Studio Oggetto in Caserta the following year. Vittorio Umberto Antonio Maria Sgarbi (born 8 May 1952 in Ferrara) is an Italian art critic, art historian, writer, politician, cultural commentator and television personality. He is President of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto. He was appointed curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 2011 Venice Biennale.
