Cris De Vera

	Cris De Vera Cris de Vera (1924–1975) was a Filipino actor who was typecast as Japanese in most of his films because of his Japanese features. De Vera made his first movie after World War II when war struck Manila in Death March, a film by Leopoldo Salcedo with Philippine Pictures, about a Prisoner of War when the Japanese invaded the Philippines and made a Death March from Bataan. He made only one movie with Sampaguita Pictures titled Maynila aka Manila which co-starred some of the prewar movie players. 	Leopoldo Salcedo Leopoldo Salcedo (March 12, 1912 – June 11, 1998) was a Filipino film actor dubbed as "The Great Profile" who specialized in portraying dramatic heroes. Early life Salcedo was born in Cavite. His father was of Spanish descent whose family immigrated in the Philippines years prior. His mother was a Filipina. In his youth, he had entered the seminary with aspirations towards priesthood, but he left after a year. Instead, he joined the bodabil troupe of Lou Borromeo in 1929. By 1934, Salcedo had broken into films, starring in José Nepomuceno's ''Sawing Palad''. He was playing leading roles by the late 1930s, and signed up with the newly formed LVN studio. Among his most prominent roles during this period was as Macario Sakay, in Lamberto Avellana's debut film ''Sakay'' (1939). 	Sampaguita Pictures Sampaguita Pictures was a Philippine film production company. It was named for the Philippine national flower, sampaguita. Though no longer functioning, the company's Sampaguita Compound remains in Quezon City. History Sampaguita Pictures was established in the last quarter of 1937. Its first feature-length film was ''Bituing Marikit'', starring Elsa Oria and Rogelio dela Rosa. It was a box-office hit. The company continued to make films in the action, musical, horror and suspense genres.
