Overton County, Tennessee
Overton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,511. Its county seat is Livingston. Overton County is part of the Cookeville, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area. History On May 10, 1933, a half-mile wide F4 tornado struck the small community of Beatty Swamps (also referred to as Bethsadia). The tornado destroyed every structure in the town and either killed or injured nearly every inhabitant, with 33 of the 35 deaths occurring in the area. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. State Route 85 (SR 85) is an east-west state highway in Middle Tennessee. The -long road traverses portions of Smith, Jackson, Overton, and Fentress Counties. State Route 164 (SR 164) is a north–south state highway in the Cumberland Plateau region of eastern Middle Tennessee. For the majority of its length, it is known as Hanging Limb Highway. Route description SR 164 begins in Putnam County in Monterey at an intersection with US 70N/SR 24. It goes northeast as S Chestnut Street past a mix of homes and businesses to have an intersection with SR 62.
