Craig Mathieson (polar Explorer)
Craig Mathieson is a polar explorer who is ‘Explorer-in-Residence’ with the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. Craig takes children from high school all over Scotland on a polar expedition Overview Born in Johnstone, Renfrewshire and raised in Buchlyvie, Stirlingshire, Mathieson was educated at Balfron High School. He began his working life overseas in the military, before moving into HM Customs & Excise as an inspector and anti-fraud officer. He spent seven years with Ernst & Young, before joining Johnston Carmichael in 2007. In January 2014, Craig Mathieson joined accountancy firm French Duncan to head a new VAT department. In 2018 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Abertay University in Dundee. Royal Scottish Geographical Society
The Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS) is an educational charity based in Perth, Scotland founded in 1884. Buchlyvie
Buchlyvie is a village in the Stirling council area of Scotland. It is situated west of Stirling and north of Glasgow. Lying within the Carse of Forth, to the north is Flanders Moss and to the south are the Campsie Fells. The village lies on the A811, which follows the line of an eighteenth-century military road between Stirling and Balloch. According to the 2001 census the village's population was 479. History Railways Buchlyvie was granted Burgh of Barony status in 1672. Buchlyvie Junction formed the intersection of the Forth and Clyde Junction Railway, which linked Stirling and Balloch, and the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway which ran north to Aberfoyle. The North Pole, also known as the Geographic North Pole or Terrestrial North Pole, is the point in the Northern Hemisphere where the Earth's axis of rotation meets its surface.
