Costa Rican Renewal Party
The Costa Rican Renewal Party ( es, Partido Renovación Costarricense) is a Christian political party in Costa Rica. History Established in 1995, as a splinter of the National Christian Alliance, the party first participated in national elections in 1998, when its presidential candidate, Sherman Thomas Jackson, received 1.4% of the vote, Nohlen, D (2005) ''Elections in the Americas: A data handbook, Volume I'', p182 whilst they won a single seat in the parliamentary elections, taken by pastor and lawyer Justo Orozco. During the 1999–2000 popular protests against the electric liberalization bill known as ''Combo ICE'', Orozco supported the protests and voted against the bill. Orozco was the party's presidential candidate in 2002, finishing fifth with 1.1% of the vote. The party also retained its sole parliamentary seat in the elections, taken by Carlos Avendaño. Social conservatism is a political philosophy and variety of conservatism which places emphasis on traditional power structures over social pluralism. Social conservatives organize in favor of duty, traditional values and social institutions, such as traditional family structures, gender roles, sexual relations, national patriotism, and religious traditions. Abortion
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus. 2018 Costa Rican General Election
General elections were held in Costa Rica in 2018 to elect both the President and Legislative Assembly. The first round of the presidential election was held on 4 February 2018, with the two highest-ranked candidates being Christian singer and Congressman Fabricio Alvarado Muñoz from the conservative National Restoration Party and writer and former Minister Carlos Alvarado Quesada from the progressive Citizens’ Action Party, gaining 24% and 21% of the votes respectively. As no candidate received more than 40% of the first round vote, a second round run-off election was held on 1 April 2018 and was won by Carlos Alvarado Quesada, with a landslide victory of 60.6% of the vote. General elections were held in Costa Rica on Sunday, 2 February 2014 to elect a new president, two vice presidents, and 57 Legislative Assembly lawmakers. The National Liberation Party ( es, Partido Liberación Nacional, PLN), nicknamed the ' ("green and whites"), is a political party in Costa Rica. The party is a member of the Socialist International. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Tibás
Tibás is the thirteenth canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The head city of the canton is San Juan. History Tibás was created on 26 June 1914 by decree 31. It was formerly known as San Juan del Murciélago and was meant to be the capital of the country, at least according to ex-president Braulio Carrillo, this is the reason the town was originally designed with such a neat array of perfectly aligned blocks, cut by the streets running from North to South and the avenues from East to West. 2010 Costa Rican General Election
General elections were held in Costa Rica on 7 February 2010. The ruling party before the election, the center-left National Liberation Party, put forward former Vice-President Laura Chinchilla as its presidential candidate, while the libertarian, Movimiento Libertario nominated former legislator Otto Guevara. 2007 Costa Rican Dominican Republic – Central America Free Trade Agreement Referendum
A referendum on the Dominican Republic–Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) was held in Costa Rica on 7 October 2007. It was originally to be held on 23 September 2007, but it was postponed on 5 June 2007 due to a court challenge. Opinion polls from April, July and August 2007 suggested that a majority of voters were in favour, while a poll from June saw a majority against. It was ultimately approved by 51.56% of voters. The movement against the CAFTA Referendum in Costa Rica brought many members of the Citizens' Action Party to national politics.
