Corran () is a townland in the civil parish of Templeport, County Cavan, Ireland. It lies in the Roman Catholic parish of Templeport and the barony of Tullyhaw. Geography Corran is bound on the north by Killycluggin townland, on the west by Kilnavert and Derrycassan townlands, on the south by Toberlyan and Toberlyan Duffin townlands, and the east by Bellaheady townland in Kildallan Parish. Corran can be entered using the regional R205 road, several minor roads, rural and disused lanes, and the Cavan and Leitrim Railway. The townland covers 146 statute acres. History In medieval times the McGovern tuath of Tullyhaw was divided into economic taxation areas called ballibetoes, from the Irish ''Baile Biataigh'' (Anglicized as 'Ballybetagh'), meaning 'A Provisioner's Town or Settlement'. Corran Descy Addison (born February 6, 1969, in South Africa) is a slalom canoeist, whitewater kayaker, surfer and surfboard designer. He is now based in Montreal, Quebec. Beginnings Addison began kayaking in South Africa in the mid-1970s. Introduced by his father to the sport, they would construct the fiberglass kayaks they needed to paddle the rivers in the basement of Rhodes University where his father Graeme Addison was a professor of journalism. Throughout the 1970s and intom the early 1980s, their kayaking consisted of long multi day expeditions in the unknown, and it was here on these long expeditions that Addison forged his love for paddling adventure. Corran Ferry
The Corran Ferry crosses Loch Linnhe at the Corran Narrows, south of Fort William, Scotland. Description Operated by Highland Council, the Corran Ferry is one of few remaining scheduled mainland vehicle ferries in Scotland. The route crosses Loch Linnhe from Nether Lochaber to Ardgour, at the Corran Narrows, south of Fort William. It was noted for the unusual sign "This is not the Ballachulish Ferry", placed there to avoid confusion with the nearby ferry at Ballachulish which crossed Loch Leven until being replaced by the Ballachulish Bridge in early 1976. The route lies on one of the ancient drove routes from the Hebrides to the cattle markets in Central Scotland. Today, the ferry is a crucial link between the main A82 road (serving Inverness, Fort William, and Glasgow) with the otherwise extremely remote Morvern and Ardnamurchan peninsulas. Corran () is a hamlet on the northern shore of Loch Hourn, in Lochalsh in Inverness-shire in the Highlands of Scotland. Andrew Corran
Andrew John Corran (born 25 November 1936) is a former first-class English cricketer and schoolmaster. After starting his career at Gresham's School, Holt (where he was also a good hockey player), at Trinity College, Oxford (where he was a cricket blue in all three of his seasons), and in Minor Counties cricket for Norfolk, Corran moved to Nottinghamshire, for whom he played between 1961 and 1965. He was the club's captain in the 1962 season, when he made 620 runs and took 64 wickets in the County Championship, but Nottinghamshire finished 15th. In the 1965 County Championship he took 109 wickets at an average of 20.30. In the 1960 Oxford and Cambridge match, Corran took 12 wickets for 116 runs. Earlier in the season he had taken 7 for 45, bowling unchanged through the innings, to dismiss Lancashire for 103. Corran Norman Stuart McLachlan (1 April 1944 – 9 August 2003) was a New Zealand research scientist and entrepreneur. McLachlan is noted for his work on epidemiological research surrounding the effects of the A1 beta-casein. He believed the existence of this protein in cows’ milk to be a public health issue contributing to both heart disease and type 1 diabetes. In February 2000, McLachlan and his business partner, Howard Paterson, established A2 Corporation Limited (renamed The a2 Milk Company in April 2014) to market A2 cows’ milk, which was free from the A1 beta-casein. Loch Linnhe () is a sea loch on the west coast of Scotland. The part upstream of Corran is known in Gaelic as (the black pool, originally known as Loch Abar), and downstream as (the salty pool). The name ''Linnhe'' is derived from the Gaelic word , meaning "pool". Loch Linnhe follows the line of the Great Glen Fault, and is the only sea loch along the fault. About long, it opens onto the Firth of Lorne at its southwestern end. The part of the loch upstream of Corran is long and an average of about wide. The southern part of the loch is wider, and its branch southeast of the island of Lismore is known as the Lynn of Lorne. Corann was an ancient Irish túath in northwest Connacht represented now by the present barony of Corran in County Sligo.
