The Murray is an agricultural region that runs along the Murray River in the south-west of New South Wales, Australia. Hopefield, New South Wales
Hopefield is a rural community in the central south part of the Riverina. It is situated by road, about 12 kilometres south west of Balldale and 12 kilometres north east of Corowa. At the 2006 census, Hopefield had a population of 308 people. History Hopefield Post Office opened on 1 October 1882 and closed in 1954. In 1915, the Hopefield Hotel was built by local builder, J Mills and was situated right near the Railway Station. In 1946, the Hopefield Hotel, a brick building was completely destroyed by fire. In 1948, the transfer of the Hopefield Hotel's liquor license to Forster, NSW was refused, then in 1953, the license transfer was finally approved to a new hotel in Forster. Sports and recreation The Hopefield Football Club was established in 1922 and played in the Coreen & District Football Association for that one season only. Corowa Shire
Corowa Shire was a local government area in the Riverina region in southern New South Wales, Australia. The area was located adjacent to the Murray River and the Riverina Highway. The Shire included the towns of Corowa, Howlong, Balldale, Coreen and Daysdale, Rennie and Mulwala. It was established in 1955 through a merger of the Corowa Municipality and Coreen Shire. Amalgamation A 2015 review of local government boundaries by the NSW Government Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal recommended that the Corowa Shire merge with the Lockhart and Urana shires to form a new council with an area of and support a population of approximately 16,000. Lowesdale is a town community in Australia in the central south part of the Riverina and situated about 2 kilometres north of Buraja and 92 kilometres east of Berrigan on the Riverina Highway. At the 2021 census, Lowesdale had a population of 100. Lowesdale Post Office opened on 1 August 1876 and closed in 1994. Corowa
Corowa is a town in the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is on the bank of the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, opposite the Victorian town of Wahgunyah. It is the largest town in the Federation Council and was the administrative centre of the former Corowa Shire. The name could have derived from an Aboriginal word referring to the curra pine which yielded gum used by Aboriginal people to fasten the heads of spears to the shafts. Another translation is "rocky river". There are two bridges over the Murray to Wahgunyah in Victoria: the heritage-listed John Foord Bridge and the Federation Bridge (opened on 2 April 2005). Daysdale
Daysdale is a locality in the central south part of the Riverina region of the Australian state of New South Wales. The locality is about south west of the state capital Sydney and north of Melbourne. At the 2021 census, Daysdale had a population of 83. History Daysdale Post Office opened on 15 February 1876 and closed in 1993. In 1876, the NSW Treasury issued a Return of Publican's Licence to William Curran Green of the Daysdale Hotel. In 1878, Price's Hotel, Daysdale was completely destroyed by fire in 1878. In 1883, the Daysdale School was established, thanks to the efforts of local MP, Mr. George Day, MLA. Coreen
Coreen is a locality in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The locality is about south west of the state capital, Sydney and north of Melbourne. Coreen is located just past the turn off to Berrigan along the Riverina highway. History Coreen Post Office opened on 1 January 1900 and closed in 1976. Mr. W A Martin from the Coreen Wine Hall purchased the liquor licence from the Phoenix Hotel in Corowa in 1912 and then built and opened the Coreen Hotel in 1913.
