Savernake ( ) is a village and rural community in the southern Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The village is located on the Riverina Highway, east of Berrigan, and in the Federation Council local government area. The area has a population of 94 The Savernake School of the Arts Hall holds events throughout the year for the community. History The first Savernake Post Office opened on 1 January 1890 and was renamed Warmatta in 1892 (and closed in 1927). The second Savernake Post Office opened in 1895 and closed in 1994. Savernake Football Club Savernake Football Club won the 1902 Clear Hills Football Association premiership, winning five of their six games. Berrigan is a town on the Riverina Highway in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The Coreen & District Football League was an Australian rules football competition in the Coreen district of the Riverina in New South Wales, initially formed in 1909. The netball competition commenced in 1972 in line with the football fixture. The league was disbanded at the end of the 2007 season after 99 years of competition. Riverina Highway is a -long state highway located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The road was constructed over several decades with final asphalt concrete sealing completed during the 1960s. Route The eastern terminus of Riverina Highway is located on the eastern shore of the Hume Weir, which impounds the Murray River, immediately east of Albury. The Bethanga Bridge carries the highway across the weir as the highway generally heads west by northwest, following the course of the Murray River to reach its western terminus at Deniliquin. West of Albury, the highway passes through or near the Riverina towns of and where it has a short concurrency with Newell Highway.
