Lowesdale
Lowesdale is a town community in Australia in the central south part of the Riverina and situated about 2 kilometres north of Buraja and 92 kilometres east of Berrigan on the Riverina Highway. At the 2021 census, Lowesdale had a population of 100. Lowesdale Post Office opened on 1 August 1876 and closed in 1994. Sport and recreation In 1915, the small community of Lowesdale entered two football teams in the Coreen & District Football Association, Lowesdale FC and the Lowesdale Military FC who went onto win the 1915 premiership. Coreen & District Football League
The Coreen & District Football League was an Australian rules football competition in the Coreen district of the Riverina in New South Wales, initially formed in 1909. The netball competition commenced in 1972 in line with the football fixture. The league was disbanded at the end of the 2007 season after 99 years of competition. History: 1901 to 1931 It appears that the Coreen & District Football Association superseded the Federal Football Association and was formed after a meeting at Matt O'Brien's Burraja Hotel in April, 1909, from the following teams of - Burrajaa, Coreen, Redlands, Ringwood and Shannonvale. Buraja, New South Wales
Buraja ( ) is a town community in the central south part of the Riverina. It is about east of Berrigan on the Riverina Highway. The Aboriginal name Buraja means ‘a swamp with young trees growing.’ When people settled in the Buraja district in the 1860s there were two parishes – Lowes and Buraja. The name Lowes (Lowesdale) was taken from one of the owners of ‘Buraja Station,’ a local farm. The small town of Burrajaa or Burryjaa or Burryja, was spelt in a variety of ways in various newspapers between 1900 and 1950, with the most recent spelling of the town being settled as - "Buraja". Riverina Highway
Riverina Highway is a -long state highway located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The road was constructed over several decades with final asphalt concrete sealing completed during the 1960s. Route The eastern terminus of Riverina Highway is located on the eastern shore of the Hume Weir, which impounds the Murray River, immediately east of Albury. The Bethanga Bridge carries the highway across the weir as the highway generally heads west by northwest, following the course of the Murray River to reach its western terminus at Deniliquin. West of Albury, the highway passes through or near the Riverina towns of and where it has a short concurrency with Newell Highway.
