Coraggio Italia (, also translatable as 'Cheer up Italy', CI) is a liberal-conservative political party in Italy, led by Luigi Brugnaro. History In February 2021, amid the formation of Mario Draghi's national unity government, Cambiamo! (C!), a liberal-conservative party led by Giovanni Toti, president of Liguria, started to attract new members from the more centrist wing of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI). In May 2021, Toti and Luigi Brugnaro, mayor of Venice, announced the formation of a new political party mainly composed by dissidents of FI, as well as Gaetano Quagliariello's Identity and Action (an associate party of C!), splinters from other parties, notably including three deputies previously affiliated with the centre-left Democratic Centre (CD). Luigi Brugnaro (born 13 September 1961) is an Italian conservative politician and entrepreneur who has been the Mayor of Venice, since taking office on 15 June 2015. Since July 2021, he is also president of Coraggio Italia (CI), a centrist political party affiliated with the Centre-right coalition (Italy), centre-right coalition. Gaetano Quagliariello (born 23 April 1960) is an Italian politician, former Minister of Constitutional Reforms and current leader of Identity and Action party. Biography Toti was born in Naples in 1960. During the University he was a member of the youth wing of the Italian Republican Party. Giovanni Toti (born 7 September 1968) is an Italian journalist and politician, who has been President of Liguria since June 2015. Toti was also elected to the European Parliament, following the 2014 European Parliament election. Biography Born in Viareggio in 1968, Toti grew up in Massa Carrara where the family ran a hotel, and he has lived for many years with his family and parents in Bocca di Magra, Ameglia, in the province of La Spezia, Liguria. History Background and beginnings In June 2019, after the European Parliament election, Silvio Berlusconi appointed Giovanni Toti, president of Liguria, and Mara Carfagna, a former minister, national coordinators of Forza Italia (FI), with the goal of reforming and relaunching the party. However, after a few weeks, Toti left the party in opposition to Berlusconi, who had not endorsed Toti's proposal for open primaries, and launched Cambiamo!. The reasons of the split were FI's lack of internal democracy and lack of clarity on the alliance with the League and the Brothers of Italy (FdI) at country-level, which he definitely supported.
