Luigi Brugnaro
Luigi Brugnaro (born 13 September 1961) is an Italian conservative politician and entrepreneur who has been the Mayor of Venice, since taking office on 15 June 2015. Since July 2021, he is also president of Coraggio Italia (CI), a centrist political party affiliated with the Centre-right coalition (Italy), centre-right coalition. Biography Entrepreneurial career Brugnaro was graduated in architecture at Venice IUAV. He has been owner of the Reyer Venezia Mestre basketball team, a past chairman of Confindustria Venice and a former president of Assolavoro. Mayor of Venice Brugnaro ran for the office as an independent politician, assuming office on 15 June 2015. Brugnaro has attracted controversy via his banning of 49 books about discrimination and homosexuality from the city's schools, including a French book on gay parenting entitled ''Jean Has Two Mums'', and in declaring that there will be no gay pride parade in Venice. Lega Nord (; acronym: LN), whose complete name is (), is a right-wing, federalist, populist and conservative political party in Italy. In the run-up of the 2018 general election, the party was rebranded as (), without changing its official name. Cambiamo! (, also stylized as C!) is a centre-right political party in Italy, led by Giovanni Toti. History Background and beginnings In June 2019, after the European Parliament election, Silvio Berlusconi appointed Giovanni Toti, president of Liguria, and Mara Carfagna, a former minister, national coordinators of Forza Italia (FI), with the goal of reforming and relaunching the party. However, after a few weeks, Toti left the party in opposition to Berlusconi, who had not endorsed Toti's proposal for open primaries, and launched Cambiamo!. Giovanni Toti (born 7 September 1968) is an Italian journalist and politician, who has been President of Liguria since June 2015. Toti was also elected to the European Parliament, following the 2014 European Parliament election. Biography Born in Viareggio in 1968, Toti grew up in Massa Carrara where the family ran a hotel, and he has lived for many years with his family and parents in Bocca di Magra, Ameglia, in the province of La Spezia, Liguria.
