Coolum Classic
The Coolum Classic was a golf tournament held in Australia between 1990 and 1999. The tournament was held at the Hyatt Regency Coolum Resort in Yaroomba, Queensland. Schweppes became the title sponsor from 1994. Prize money was A$150,000 in 1990 rising to A$200,000 from 1992 to 1996. Prize money was $300,000 in 1999. Yaroomba, Queensland
Yaroomba is a coastal suburb in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Yaroomba had a population of 1,623 people. Geography The eastern boundary of the suburb is the Coral Sea, featuring a long strip of sand called Yaroomba Beach (). The land rises from sea level in the east to approximately in the west. The Palmer Coolum Resort and Golf Course occupies about half the suburb, . The remainder is residential housing. The David Low Way traverses the suburb from north-east to south-east. History The suburb began life as a housing estate named Coronation Beach in 1953 in honour of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The name was changed to Yaroomba, a Kabi word which means "surf on the beach", in 1961. In 2007, a piece of hardwood ribbing was found on the beach by Scott Patterson. Craig Spence (golfer)
Craig A. Spence (born 17 September 1974) is an Australian professional golfer. Spence was born in Colac, Victoria and first played golf at the age of 10. Around the age of 15 he began competing at an amateur level. He then went on to the Victorian Institute of Sport, winning two Victorian Amateurs back to back. He turned professional in 1996 and joined the PGA Tour of Australasia. In 1999 Spence made his professional breakthrough with victory in the Ericsson Australian Masters. Having opened up with a 9 under par first round, he finished by hitting a 6 iron to two feet for a birdie on the final hole to win by a single stroke over Australia's most successful golfer, playing partner Greg Norman. Following that win Spence received invites to tournaments around the world, on five of the major tours. He managed to record top 5 finishes in events on all of those tours. Andre Stolz
Andre Pierre Stolz (born 10 May 1970) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life and professional career Stolz was born in Brisbane, Australia. He turned professional in 1992. He has played on the PGA Tour of Australasia, Japan Golf Tour (2001), Nationwide Tour (2003), and PGA Tour (2004–05). In 2003, he won the LaSalle Bank Open on the Nationwide Tour and finished 13th on the money list, earning his PGA Tour card for 2004. On the PGA Tour, he won the 2004 Michelin Championship at Las Vegas with a stroke victory over Tag Ridings, securing his card through 2006. However, an injury to his left wrist in 2005 halted his career. After taking three years off, Stolz went back to playing, competing in his native Australia, Asia, and the Nationwide Tour. Mike Clayton (golfer)
Michael Andrew Clayton (born 30 May 1957) is an Australian professional golfer, golf course architect and commentator on the game. He won the 1984 Timex Open on the European Tour and won six times on the PGA Tour of Australasia between 1982 and 1994. Amateur career Clayton was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He had a very successful amateur career which included the 1978 Australian Amateur, and the Victorian Amateur in 1977 and 1981. Professional career Clayton turned professional in 1981, the same year he joined the Australian Tour. He won his first tour event one year later and would win six more times between then and 1994.
