The Convent of San Plácido ( Spanish: ''Convento de San Plácido'') is a convent located in Madrid, Spain. It was declared '' Bien de Interés Cultural'' in 1943. The interior of the church was decorated including frescoes in the ceiling of the main chapel by Francisco Rizi and Juan Martín Cabezalero. In the retable of the main altar is an ''Annunciation'' by Claudio Coello Claudio Coello (2 March 1642 – 20 April 1693) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Francisco Rizi
Francisco Rizi, or Francisco Ricci de Guevara (9 April 1614 – 2 August 1685) was a Spanish painter of Italian ancestry. Biography He was born in Madrid. His father, Antonio Ricci, was an Italian painter, originally from Ancona, who had come to Spain in 1583 to do decorative work at El Escorial. His brother, Juan, also became a painter. After beginning his apprenticeship in his father's workshop, he studied with Vicente Carducho, who was also of Italian origin. Thanks to Carducho's influence, he was able to make contacts at the Royal Court in 1634. After Carducho's death in 1638, he joined with several other painters to create decorations for the Golden Salon at the Royal Alcázar of Madrid. These were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1734. Between 1640 and 1649, he became one of the earliest painters in Spain to adopt the Baroque style. Juan Martín Cabezalero
Juan Martín Cabezalero (August 1645, in Almadén – 24 June 1673, in Madrid) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Life and works Earlier accounts place his birth in 1633, but baptismal documents indicate that it was 1645. At some point, his family moved to Madrid, where he trained with Juan Carreño de Miranda. His first signed work dates from 1666; a depiction of Saint Jerome, now at the Meadows Museum in Dallas, which shows the influence of Anthony van Dyck. In 1667, he received a commission to create four large canvases on the Passion of Christ for the chapel of the Christ of Sorrows of the Third Order of Saint Francis, for which he would be paid 1,550 reales each. Claudio Coello
Claudio Coello (2 March 1642 – 20 April 1693) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Coello is considered the last great Spanish painter of the 17th century. The son of Faustino Coello, a famous Portuguese sculptor, he was a court painter for Charles II. He worked on many churches and public buildings in Madrid, with his most famous work being in the sacristy of El Escorial, which is filled with portraits of priests and courtiers. Gregorio Fernández (April 1576 – 22 January 1636) was a Spanish Baroque sculptor. He belongs to the Castilian school of sculpture, following the style of other great artists like Alonso Berruguete, Juan de Juni, Pompeyo Leoni, and Juan de Arfe.
