Singel Uitgeverijen is a major Dutch publishing group, headquartered in Amsterdam. Its subsidiaries are Nijgh & Van Ditmar, , De Arbeiderspers, Athenaeum, Polak & Van Gennep, De Geus, and Volt. Conserve Conserve, a former publishing house that merged into Singel on 1 January 2019, is now an imprint. Conserve books are published as De Geus-Conserve or Volt-Conserve. Conserve (Dutch: "Uitgeverij Conserve") was established as a Dutch publishing organization in 1983 in Schoorl by Kees de Bakker. The company specialised in publishing historical novels. Cynthia McLeod was one of the authors published by Conserve. De Arbeiderspers is a Dutch publishing company, started as a socialist enterprise. The name means 'The Workers' Press'. History The company was started in 1929 as a combination of the publishing firm N.V. Ontwikkeling and the Dutch Social Democratic Workers' Party newspaper '' Het Volk''. Currently it is part of a larger media conglomerate, the Weekbladpersgroep, which also includes publishing companies De Bezige Bij and Querido. ''Het Parool'' () is an Amsterdam-based daily newspaper. It was first published on 10 February 1941 as a resistance paper during the German occupation of the Netherlands (1940–1945). In English, its name means ''The Password'' or ''The Motto''. History Second World War The paper was preceded by a stenciled newsletter which was started in May 1940 by Frans Goedhart. In late 1940, Wim van Norden joined the group of producers of the newsletter; Van Norden would later serve as director of the newspaper between 1945 and 1979. The Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau BV (ANP) is the largest news agency in the Netherlands. ANP was founded on 11 December 1934 by the association of Dutch newspapers (NDP). Schoorl
Schoorl is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Bergen, North Holland, Bergen, and lies about 8 km northwest of Alkmaar. Until 2001, Schoorl was also a municipality of its own. Schoorl is a village in between the polder area of North Holland and the Kennemer dunes. Cynthia Henri McLeod (née Ferrier; born 4 October 1936) is a Surinamese novelist known for her historic novels and whose debut novel instantly made her one of the most prominent authors of Suriname. Background McLeod was born in Paramaribo as Cynthia Ferrier; she is the daughter of Johan Ferrier, the first President of Suriname. She is the half-sister of Dutch politician Kathleen Ferrier. McLeod completed her secondary school education in Suriname and continued her education in the Netherlands, where she studied to become a teacher in Child Care and Education. She married Dr. Donald McLeod whom she met in the Netherlands. ''Lord of Formosa'' ( nl, Formosa voorgoed verloren; historische roman over de VOC op Taiwan; "Formosa lost forever; historical novel about the Dutch East India Company in Taiwan") is a 2018 English-language historical novel by Dutch author Joyce Bergvelt. Its Dutch translation (author's own), which was the first version to be released, was initially published by Conserve; the original English version, published by Camphor Press, was released in 2018.
