Communist Working Group (Thuringia)
The Communist Working Group (german: Kommunistische Arbeitsgemeinschaft, abbreviated KAG) was a political faction in Thuringia, Germany. KAG was founded by the Landtag of Thuringia members , Agnes Schmidt and , whom had constituted an ultra-left faction in the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Geithner and Schreyer had been expelled from KPD, whilst Schmidt resigned from the party to join KAG. KAG fielded a list in the 30 January 1927 Landtag election, headed by Geithner, Schmidt and Schreyer. The KAG list failed to get any deputies elected, obtaining 3,732 votes (0.46%). Landtag Of Thuringia
The Landtag of Thuringia is the parliament of the German federal state of Thuringia. It convenes in Erfurt and currently consists of 90 members from six parties. According to the free state's constitution, the primary functions of the Landtag are to pass laws, elect the Minister-President and control the government of Thuringia. Elections Elections are held every five years using the German Mixed-member proportional representation (MMP) system, with an election threshold of 5% vote share to receive any seats. All German citizens 18 years of age or older living in Thuringia are entitled to vote. If a party wins more constituency seats than its overall share of the vote, the overall size of the Landtag increases because of these overhang and leveling mandates. Agnes Schmidt
Agnes Schmidt (14 October 1875 – 21 November 1952) was a German activist and politician (SPD, USPD, KPD) who served as a member of the Parliament (''"Landtag"'') of Thuringia. Life Agnes Schmidt was born in Gotha, a town rich in history located a short distance to the west of Erfurt in south central Germany. By 1900 she is already recorded as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). In 1914, after war broke out in July, the party leadership's implementation of what amounted to a parliamentary truce in respect of funding the war triggered widespread dismay among the party membership. As frontline slaughter and economic destitution at home mounted , Agnes Schmidt was among those who broke away from the mainstream party to form the Independent Social Democratic Party (''"Unabhängige Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands"'' / USPD) in 1917. The Communist Party of Germany (german: Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands, , KPD ) was a major political party in the Weimar Republic between 1918 and 1933, an underground resistance movement in Nazi Germany, and a minor party in West Germany in the postwar period until it was banned by the Federal Constitutional Court in 1956. Founded in the aftermath of the First World War by socialists who had opposed the war, the party joined the Spartacist uprising of January 1919, which sought to establish a soviet republic in Germany. The Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (german: Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands, SAPD) was a centrist Marxist political party in Germany. It was formed as a left-wing party with around 20,000 members which split off from the SPD in the autumn of 1931. In 1931, the remnants of Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD) merged into the party and in 1932 some Communist Party dissenters also joined the group as well as a part from the Communist Party Opposition. Nevertheless, its membership remained small. From 1933, the group's members worked illegally against Nazism.
