Agnes Schmidt
Agnes Schmidt (14 October 1875 – 21 November 1952) was a German activist and politician (SPD, USPD, KPD) who served as a member of the Parliament (''"Landtag"'') of Thuringia. Life Agnes Schmidt was born in Gotha, a town rich in history located a short distance to the west of Erfurt in south central Germany. By 1900 she is already recorded as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). In 1914, after war broke out in July, the party leadership's implementation of what amounted to a parliamentary truce in respect of funding the war triggered widespread dismay among the party membership. As frontline slaughter and economic destitution at home mounted , Agnes Schmidt was among those who broke away from the mainstream party to form the Independent Social Democratic Party (''"Unabhängige Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands"'' / USPD) in 1917. Ruth Fischer
Ruth Fischer (11 December 1895 – 13 March 1961) was an Austrian and German Communist, and a co-founder of the Austrian Communist Party (KPÖ) in 1918. Along with her partner Arkadi Maslow, she led the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) through both the May 1924 and December 1924 federal elections. After being removed from the KPD, she became involved with various anti-Stalinist left-wing groups, and would remain a staunch anti-Stalinist activist for the rest of her life. Background Fischer was born Elfriede Eisler in Leipzig in 1895, the daughter of Marie Edith Fischer and Rudolf Eisler, a professor of philosophy at Leipzig but of Austrian nationality. The Communist Working Group (german: Kommunistische Arbeitsgemeinschaft, abbreviated KAG) was a political faction in Thuringia, Germany. KAG was founded by the Landtag of Thuringia members , Agnes Schmidt and , whom had constituted an ultra-left faction in the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Iwan Katz
Iwan Katz (1 February 1889 - 20 September 1956) was a German politician (SPD, USPD, KPD, AAUE, SED and UAPD). In many ways the period of his greatest influence, within the Communist Party and after his expulsion from it in 1926 outside it, came between 1924 and approximately 1927. Between 1924 and 1928 he served as a member of parliament (''Reichstags Mitglied''). On account of his record of activism he was subject to persecution during the twelve Hitler years, spending the years from 1941 till 1944 in concentration camps.
