Coláiste Rís
Coláiste Rís is a secondary school in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. It is named in honour of Edmund Rice, the founder of the Irish Christian Brothers. Background 19th Century Coláiste Rís, formerly Dundalk CBS, was established on 10 May 1869 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers which is an order of Brothers, not monks or priests, called to consecrated life. The first student was John Kelly from Dundalk. The Christian Brothers were invited to form a school by Archbishop Michael Kieran of Armagh because, in his own words, "they gave the best education that has been offered to the youth of Ireland". 20th Century The founder of the school was Brother Louis Yorke, an Englishman born in Manchester into a Protestant family. When he died, in June 1907, the town of Dundalk came to a standstill. Patrick McDonnell (actor)
Patrick McDonnell is an Irish actor and comedian. He has starred in the RTÉ hidden camera comedy show ''Naked Camera'' and the sketch show '' Stew''. However he is probably best remembered at home and abroad for his role as Eoin McLove in the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. Patrick McDonnell is a native of Dromiskin, County Louth. John Moore (director)
John Moore (born 1970) is an Irish film director and producer whose credits include the action war film '' Behind Enemy Lines'' and ''A Good Day to Die Hard''. Early life and education Moore was born in Dundalk, Ireland, and attended Dublin Institute of Technology, where he attained a degree in Media Arts. Upon completing his course, Moore genuinely believed that he wouldn't go on to work within the medium of film, but after a few years, that promptly changed. Career After graduating, he wrote and directed a series of short films in Ireland. Several of these shorts have featured on Irish TV networks over the years, and along the way Moore founded an Irish-based production company called Clingfilms. Jim Corr
James Steven Ignatius Corr, (born 31 July 1964) is an Irish musician, singer, songwriter and DJ. He is a member of the Irish folk/rock band The Corrs, the other members being his three younger sisters Andrea, Sharon and Caroline. Musical career Corr first took guitar lessons in his hometown of Dundalk, a large industrial town in County Louth. Corr plays acoustic and electric guitar as well as piano, keyboard, accordion and singing background vocals. Séamus Kirk (born 26 April 1945) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 2009 to 2011 and a Minister of State from 1987 to 1992.
