Colin James Beacom (born 1937), is a male former international badminton player who competed for England. Badminton career Beacom is a three times National champion, winning the English National Badminton Championships in the mixed doubles in 1964 with Jenny Pritchard and the men's doubles with Tony Jordan in 1966 and 1968. In addition he has won the 1963 Irish Open, 1964 Scottish Open in the doubles and 1973 Scottish Open singles. The English National Badminton Championships is a tournament organised by the Badminton England to crown the best badminton players in England. The tournament started in 1964 and is held annually. Badminton career Born Helen Jennifer Pritchard she first competed as Pritchard when she won the mixed doubles title at the 1964 All England Open Badminton Championships, with Tony Jordan. Irish Open (badminton)
The Irish International or Irish Open in badminton is an international open held in Ireland since 1902 and is thereby one of the oldest badminton tournaments in the world. It was however interrupted by the two World Wars. This tournament is currently a part of the European Badminton Circuit and takes place at the end of November every year as part of the home nations loop of international tournaments that include the Scottish Open and the Welsh Open in consecutive weeks. The tournament for most part and in recent years has been an International Challenge rated event. The recent exception was in 2012, 2017 & 2018 when the tournament was downgraded to International Series due to funding. Recent editions have been held in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre except for 2007 and 2011 tournaments which were held in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. 1966 British Empire And Commonwealth Games
The 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games were held in Kingston, Jamaica, from 4 to 13 August 1966. This was the first time that the Games had been held outside the so-called White Dominions. They were followed by the 1966 Commonwealth Paraplegic Games for wheelchair athletes. Jamaica remains the only host nation of a Commonwealth Games that did not win at least one gold medal in its own games.
