Clube Portugal Telecom
Clube Portugal Telecom, commonly known as Portugal Telecom, was a basketball team based in Lisbon, Portugal. The club was founded in 1996 and was owned by Portugal Telecom, the largest telecommunications service provider in the country. The team won three consecutive league titles between 2000 and 2003, but was dissolved by the company before the start of the 2003–04 season, citing financial reasons. History The basketball team was established in 1996. The club played in the country's top flight league since its inception. In their second season, the team reached the Portuguese Basketball League Cup (''Taça da Liga'') finals, were they lost to Esgueira. The Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol ( en, Portuguese Basketball League), also known as Liga Betclic for sponsorship reasons, is the top men's professional club basketball league in Portugal. History From the 2008–09 season onward, the competition has been again organised by the Federação Portuguesa de Basquetebol (Portuguese Basketball Federation) after not having been for 13 seasons. This was caused by the fold of the LPB after many years of financial problems, with the league now being a semi-professional league. Jorge Miguel Correia Coelho (born October 18, 1978, Lisbon) is a Portuguese basketball player. He played at his home country for Portugal Telecom (1999/2000-2002-2003), CF Belenenses (2003/2004-2005/2006) and FC Porto (2006/2007). Diogo Carreira (born December 2, 1978) is a retired Portuguese basketball player. A point guard, Carreira spent his entire career in his home-country, being mostly associated with Seixal, Belenenses and Benfica, winning several honours with the latter. Career Born in Barreiro, Carreira interested in basketball was sparked by a cousin, who took him to Barreirense, where he started competing at age 9. In 1997, he started his professional career in the basketball section of telecommunications company, Portugal Telecom, staying for one season, before moving to Seixal. Jean-Jacques Nzadi da Conceição (born 3 April 1964, in Kinshasa), more commonly known as J.J. Conceição or Jean-Jacques, is an Angolan-Portuguese retired professional basketball player. A 2.02 m (6'7 "), 100 kg (220 lbs.) power forward, he represented Angola at the AfroBasket, where he won a record seven African titles. The 2002–03 FIBA Europe Champions Cup was the first edition of Europe's 4th-tier level transnational competition for men's professional basketball clubs, the FIBA Europe Champions Cup, following the merger of the FIBA Korać Cup and FIBA Saporta Cup competitions into the new ULEB Cup competition. compID= In this first edition of the competition, it was actually the 3rd-tier level on the European club basketball pyramid.
