Club Africain ( ar, النادي الإفريقي) is a Tunisian professional basketball club from Tunis. The club competes in the Championnat National A. The team has won the national championship four times, the last time being in 2016. Notable players of the team include senior men's Tunisian national basketball team members Mourad El Mabrouk, Marouan Kechrid, Marouen Lahmar, and Naim Dhifallah. History The basketball section of Club Africain was established in 1956. The team entered the first-level Championnat National A in the 1979–80 season. Three years later, in 1982, the club won its first trophy when it captured the Tunisian Cup. Rival ES Radès was defeated in the final with a score of 86–71. In 1999, a second Tunisian Cup was won after US Monastir was narrowly edged in the final, 72–69. Two years later, the third Cup was captured after beating Monastir again. Championnat National A
The Championnat National A (CNA) is the highest tier professional basketball league in Tunisia. Established in 1956, the league currently features 10 teams. Étoile Sportive de Radès is the record holder for most titles, with a total of thirteen. The current champion is US Monastir, after winning the title in 2021–22. The champions of the league qualify directly for the regular season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Mário Palma
Mário Leonel Faria Borges de Palma (born 27 June 1950) is a Portuguese basketball coach. Career Palma was the coach of Angola at their first appearance at the FIBA Africa Championship, in 1980, finishing in seventh place. He later would be the coach of Benfica, leading the Portuguese squad to a golden era, where they won five titles at the Portuguese Championship and the Cup of Portugal. They also reached the final group of the European Champions Cup for the first time in 1993/94. Palma returned to the Angolan squad, where he won three titles in a row at the FIBA Africa Championship editions of 1999, 2001 and 2003. He was also the Angolan coach at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics. The 2008 FIBA Africa Basketball Club Championship (23rd edition), was an international basketball tournament held in Sousse and Hammam, Tunisia, from December 12 to 21, 2008.
