US Monastir (basketball)
Union Sportive Monastirienne ( ar, الاتحاد الرياضي المنستيري), commonly known as US Monastir, is a Tunisian professional basketball club based in Monastir. Established in 1959, the team plays in the Pro A the first division league in Tunisia and has won seven national championships. Monastir also plays in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) since the inaugural season in 2021. Home games are played in the Mohamed-Mzali Sports Hall. US Monastir is one of the most decorated clubs in Tunisian basketball history, as the club has experienced recent success including winning 7 Tunisian Leagues and 4 Tunisian Cups. The Pro A (formerly the Championnat National A (CNA)) is the highest tier professional basketball league in Tunisia. The league is organised by the Tunisia Basketball Federation (FTBB). Established in 1956, the league currently features 10 teams. Étoile Sportive de Radès is the record holder for most titles, with a total of thirteen. The current champion is US Monastir, who won the title in the 2021–22 season. The champions of the league qualify directly for the regular season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Étoile Sportive de Radès ( ar, النجم الرياضي الرادسي), commonly known as ES Radès, is a Tunisian professional basketball club from Radès, Tunis. 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup
The 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup was the 32nd edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The tournament was held on 10 and 12 February 2023 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on the Spanish island of Tenerife. It was the third time that the tournament is held in Tenerife after 2017 and 2020. Canarias (known as Lenovo Tenerife for sponsorship reasons) won its third Intercontinental Cup title after defeating São Paulo in the final. Bruno Fitipaldo was named the MVP. Rio Grande Valley Vipers came in third place, US Monastir in the fourth. Teams On December 6, 2021, FIBA announced the champions of the 2022 FIBA Asia Champions Cup would be added to the competition. Ater Majok
Ater James "AJ" Majok (born 4 July 1987) is a professional basketball player for Al Riyadi Club Beirut of the Lebanese Basketball League. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2011 NBA draft with the 58th overall pick. He represents Lebanon internationally. High school and college career Majok was born in Sudan in 1987. He migrated to Sydney through a refugee camp in Egypt. Upon arrival in Sydney, he bonded with a group of young men also from Sudan, called the South Stars basketball team. He attended high school at St Aloysius' College and Parramatta Marist High School in Sydney, and the American International School in Carlingford where he graduated in 2008. The Basketball Africa League Hakeem Olajuwon Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) is an annual Basketball Africa League (BAL) award given to the best player of a given season. The award is named after all-time great Hakeem Olajuwon. The award was first handed out in the inaugural season to Walter Hodge. Three players have won the award thus far. Michael Andre Dixon Jr. (born December 1, 1990) is an American-born naturalized Georgian professional basketball player for Kolossos Rodou of the Greek Basket League. He is a 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) tall combo guard. Following three years of college basketball at the University of Missouri, and one year at the University of Memphis, Dixon entered the 2014 NBA draft, but he was not selected in the draft's two rounds. 2022 BAL Finals
The 2022 BAL Finals was the championship game of the 2022 BAL season, the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The final was played in the BK Arena in Kigali on 28 May 2022, between Angolan club Petro de Luanda and Tunisian club US Monastir. US Monastir won the game after pulling away in the fourth quarter, winning its first BAL and its first African continental title. The game was attended by a sold-out crowd of 10,000. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, commonly known as Petro de Luanda, is an Angolan basketball club based in Luanda. It competes at the local level, at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the Angola National Basketball Championship. Wael Arakji ( ar, وائل عرقجي; born 4 September 1994) is a Lebanese basketball player for Lebanese Basketball League club Al Riyadi Club Beirut and the Lebanon national team. Omar Abada ( ar, عمر عبادة, born 20 April 1993) is a Tunisian professional basketball player who plays for Al Wahda Damascus of the Syrian Basketball League.
