Clough–Ballacolla GAA
Clough–Ballacolla is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Laois, Ireland. The colour of the club jersey is all blue with a gold band. History Since its founding in the late 19th century, the club has changed its name a number of times and was previously known as Ballygeehan, St Canice's, Cannonswood, Ballacolla. From 1914 to 1918, hurling was particularly strong the area with the Ballygeehan team winning the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, as well as supplying the bulk of the team in 1915 when Laois won its only All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. Mick Aherne, a member of the Laois senior football and hurling teams of the 1980s, is one of the best known players the club has produced. During the late 1990s and the 2000s Clough–Ballacolla won several titles in U/14, U/16, Minor and U-21. In 2009, Clough–Ballacolla won their first Laois Senior Hurling Championship title in 91 years. Stephen Maher (hurler)
Stephen 'Picky' Maher (born 17 January 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays as a right wing-forward for the Laois senior team. Born in Ballacolla, County Laois, Maher first played competitive hurling in the various juvenile grades. He arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Laois minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 side. He made his senior debut in the 2012 National Hurling League. Maher has been a regular fixture on team since that initial appearance, and has won one National Hurling League (Division 2A) medal. Shinty–Hurling International Series
The Shinty–Hurling International Series is a sports competition played annually between the Ireland national hurling team (selected by the Gaelic Athletic Association) and Scotland national shinty team (selected by the Camanachd Association). Tom Finlay
Thomas P. Finlay (1897 – 6 September 1967) was an Irish hurler who played as a wing-back for the Laois senior team. Regarded as one of Laois's greatest-ever players, Finlay played during the county's most successful period from 1914 to 1915 before later lining out for Dublin. During his inter-county career he won two All-Ireland medals and three Leinster medals. Finlay was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. Jack Finlay
John Finlay (10 June 1889 – 30 September 1942) was an Irish athlete who played hurling for Laois in the 1910s and in later life was a politician. Finlay was born in Ballycuddy, County Laois in 1889. He had a love of hurling from a young age and soon joined his local club Ballygeehan. In 1913 Finlay won a Laois Junior Hurling Championship with the club. They moved to senior level the following year and proceeded to win five county championships in-a-row with Finlay as captain. After winning the county title in 1914 the club had a major say in the selection of the inter-county team for the following year. Finlay was chosen as captain and was joined by his brother Tom Finlay. That year Laois defeated Offaly, Kilkenny and Dublin to win the Leinster Championship. William Dunphy (born 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Laois Senior Championship club Clough–Ballacolla and at inter-county level with the Laois senior hurling team. He currently lines out as a full-forward. Career Dunphy first came to prominence as a member of the Clough–Ballacolla club at juvenile and underage levels. Laois All-County Football League
The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. These would have roughly equated to the current top three or four divisions in the ACFL.
