Ghislain Cloquet
Ghislain Cloquet (18 April 1924 – 2 November 1981) was a Belgian-born French cinematographer. Cloquet was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1924. He went to Paris to study and became a French citizen in 1940. Cloquet is known for his work with Robert Bresson, though he also collaborated with Claude Sautet, Jacques Demy, André Delvaux, Chris Marker, and Marguerite Duras. He shot Jacques Becker's last film, ''Le Trou'', and then worked several times with Becker's son Jean, who was Cloquet's brother-in-law. He also worked with several non-French directors, including Woody Allen (''Love and Death''), Arthur Penn ('' Four Friends''), and, most notably, Roman Polanski, winning an Oscar (on his first nomination) for his work on Polanski's ''Tess'', which he completed after the death of Geoffrey Unsworth. Hippolyte Cloquet
Hippolyte Cloquet (10 March 1787 – 3 March 1840) was a French physician and anatomist who was a native of Paris. He was the brother of surgeon Jules Germain Cloquet (1790–1883), and father to Ernest Cloquet (1818–1855), who was a personal physician to Mohammad Shah Qajar of Persia. He studied medicine in Paris, where he earned his doctorate in 1815. In 1823 he became a member of the ''Académie de Médecine''. Cloquet was a pioneer in the field of rhinology, and in 1821 published '' Osphrésiologie, ou traité des odeurs'', which was a comprehensive treatise that discussed olfaction, diseases of the nose, deviations of the septum, rhinoplasty, et al. He was also author of ''Traité d'anatomie descriptive'', an influential French text of anatomy that ran through six editions. Jules Germain Cloquet
Jules Germain Cloquet (18 December 1790 – 23 February 1883) was a French physician and surgeon who was born and practiced medicine in Paris. His older brother, Hippolyte Cloquet (1787-1840) and his younger nephew Ernest Cloquet (1818-1855) were also physicians. In 1821 Jules Cloquet became one of the earliest members elected to the Académie Nationale de Médecine in Paris. In 1836, he was elected Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Cloquet was known for his expertise as a surgeon, especially his work with hernial disorders. He was also the first to describe and identify the remnant of the embryonic hyaloid artery. This vestige was to become known as Cloquet's canal. Cloquet, Minnesota
Cloquet ( ) is a city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States, at the junction of Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highway 33. Part of the city lies within the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation and serves as one of the reservation's three administrative centers. The population was 12,568 at the 2020 census. History Cloquet began as a group of small settlements around three sawmills: Shaw Town, Nelson Town, and Johnson Town. These became known as Knife Falls after a local waterfall over sharp slate rocks, and later as Cloquet. The Ojibwe in the area called the area ''Mookomaan-onigamiing'', meaning "At the Knife Portage", as the portage to avoid Knife Falls connected the three communities. The area was platted in 1883 and the village of Cloquet was incorporated from the three settlements in 1884. It became a city with a mayor and city council in 1904. Cloquet Terminal Railroad
Cloquet Terminal Railroad is a small Class 3 terminal railroad operating of track in Cloquet, Minnesota. The railroad interchanges with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Canadian Pacific railroads in Cloquet and services the Sappi Paper Mill, a USG Ceiling Tile plant and a SMI Plant on the mill site. The railroad's shop and offices are located on Dunlap Island in the St. Louis River. The railroad owns 160 freight cars. In 2004, the railroad handled 6,000 railroad cars. Cloquet Terminal Railroad is owned by the Sappi Paper Mill and took over the operations of the Duluth and Northeastern Railroad on May 13, 2002. The Duluth & Northeastern, while the last operating logging railroad in Minnesota, had abandoned most of its route in the 1940s and the line between Cloquet and Saginaw, Minnesota in the 1990s. Cloquet Valley State Forest
The Cloquet Valley State Forest encompasses ; of which (or 15%) are Minnesota Department of Natural Resources forestry administered lands. Located in southeast Saint Louis County, the Cloquet Valley State Forest is located about north of Duluth and southeast of Virginia, in Minnesota's Arrowhead region. It spreads out over east–central Saint Louis County, generally in areas just north of the city of Duluth, but extending into the valleys of the Ush-kab-wan River, Whiteface River, and Cloquet River, for which it is named. Hyaloid Artery
The hyaloid artery is a branch of the ophthalmic artery, which is itself a branch of the internal carotid artery. It is contained within the optic stalk of the eye and extends from the optic disc through the vitreous humor to the lens. Usually fully regressed before birth, its purpose is to supply nutrients to the developing lens in the growing fetus. During the tenth week of development in humans (time varies depending on species), the lens grows independent of a blood supply and the hyaloid artery usually regresses. Its proximal portion remains as the central artery of the retina. Regression of the hyaloid artery leaves a clear central zone through the vitreous humor, called the hyaloid canal or Cloquet's canal.
