Clifty Creek (North Fork River)
Clifty Creek is a stream in eastern Douglas and southeastern Wright counties of Missouri. It is a tributary of the North Fork River. Clifty Creek source is in a valley in the southeast corner of Wright County just southeast of the intersection of State Route 95 and State Route AD south of Mountain Grove. The stream flows south into Douglas County and passes under Missouri Route 76 northwest of Vanzant then turns southeast and flows through several incised meanders before its confluence with the North Fork a short distance south of Topaz Topaz is a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine with the chemical formula Al Si O( F, OH). Mountain Grove, Missouri
Mountain Grove is a city in Wright County and Texas County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It lies within the Ozarks in the south-central part of the state. The population was 4,313 at the 2020 census. History A post office called Mountain Grove has been in operation since 1875. The community owes its present name to a stand of trees near the original elevated town site. In 1841 a settlement was built on land east of Mountain Grove near a spring in a grove of hickory timber. A post office was established in Hickory Spring in 1853. The post office, in 1878, was named for Judge Robert W. Fyan, a prominent figure in early county history. In 1859, a general store was built at the crossroads about one mile west of Hickory Spring. Route 76 is a highway in the west half of southern Missouri running between U.S. Route 60 and U.S. Route 63 at Willow Springs and the Oklahoma state line near Tiff City where it continues as a county road. Vanzant, Missouri
Vanzant is an unincorporated community in northeastern Douglas County, Missouri, United States. It is located on Route 95 at the intersection with state route W, approximately one mile south of Route 76 and thirteen miles south of Mountain Grove. The community of Drury is about three miles south on Route 95. Vanzant post office was established in 1892 and was assigned a zip code of 65768. The community was named after an early settler. Vanzant is located on a ridge at an elevation of between southward-flowing tributary streams of Bryant Creek, Fox Creek to the west and Brush Creek to the east. Incised Meander
A meander is one of a series of regular sinuous curves in the channel of a river or other watercourse. It is produced as a watercourse erodes the sediments of an outer, concave bank ( cut bank) and deposits sediments on an inner, convex bank which is typically a point bar. The result of this coupled erosion and sedimentation is the formation of a sinuous course as the channel migrates back and forth across the axis of a floodplain. The zone within which a meandering stream periodically shifts its channel is known as a meander belt. It typically ranges from 15 to 18 times the width of the channel.
