Clem Nettles
Clem Nettles (October 10, 1930 – January 16, 2018) was an American farmer and politician. Nettles was born in Pike County, Mississippi and graduated from Carters Creek School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He lived in Jayess, Mississippi with his wife and family and was a dairy farmer. Nettles served on the North Pike School District Board and was the president of the school board. Samuel Cochran Mims V (born April 2, 1972) is an American politician. He is a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from the 97th District, being first elected in 2003. He is a member of the Republican party. Mims' great-grandfather, Sam Mims Jr., was a ( Democratic) Mississippi state senator. He was married to the former Amanda Ashley Legg at Centenary United Methodist Church in McComb on September 7, 1996. They have two daughters and one son, named Sam VI. Pike County is a county located on the southwestern border of the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, the population was 40,324. The county seat is Magnolia. Pike County is named for explorer Zebulon Pike. Pike County is part of the McComb, MS Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Pike County was formed from Marion County by an act of the Territorial General Assembly on December 9, 1815. Holmesville was selected as the county seat on December 11, 1816; it was named in honor of Major Andrew Hunter Holmes, an army officer killed in the War of 1812. In 1873 Magnolia was voted in as the new county seat. The county was devoted to agriculture and is still mostly rural. Jayess, Mississippi
Jayess is an unincorporated community in Lawrence County, Mississippi, United States. History Jayess was named for J.S. Butterfield, owner of the Butterfield Lumber Company. The Butterfield Company laid down a railroad through Jayess in 1912 to transport timber being harvested in the area to the company's sawmill in Norfield, approximately west of Jayess. J.S. Butterfield's initials were used until the Postal Department changed it in when opened in 1912, to create the name "Jayess.". A post office is still located at the settlement. Both a sawmill and a cotton gin were located in Jayess. A klavern of the Ku Klux Klan was located in Jayess during the early 1960s. The Jayess Baptist Church is located at the settlement. Located west of Jayess is the Boyd-Cothern House, constructed in 1837, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The Mississippi House of Representatives is the lower house of the Mississippi Legislature, the lawmaking body of the U.S. state of Mississippi.
