''Classic Crystal'' is the second compilation album by American country music singer Crystal Gayle. Released in October 1979, the album spans Gayle's time on the United Artists Records label, which proved to be the height of her career. It peaked at #8 on the Billboard Country Music Albums chart, and #62 on the Billboard 200. It was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1980. In the United Kingdom, a 14 track modified version of the album was released in 1980 as ''The Crystal Gayle Singles Album''. It included the recent UK singles 'We Should Be Together' and 'Too Deep For Tears' as well as 'High Time', 'River Road' and 'All I Wanna Do In Life'. 'I'll Do It All Over Again' was omitted. Crystal Gayle
Crystal Gayle (born Brenda Gail Webb; January 9, 1951) is an American country music singer widely known for her 1977 hit "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue". Initially, Gayle's management and record label were the same as that of her oldest sister, Loretta Lynn. Not finding success with the arrangement after several years, and with Lynn's encouragement, Gayle decided to try a different approach. She signed a new record contract and began recording with Nashville producer Allen Reynolds. Gayle's new sound was sometimes referred to as middle-of-the-road (MOR) or country pop, and was part of a bigger musical trend by many country artists of the 1970s to appeal to a wider audience. Subsequently, Gayle became one of the most successful crossover artists of the 1970s and 80s. Her floor-length hair has become synonymous with her name. Roger Frederick Cook (born 19 August 1940) is an English singer, songwriter and record producer, who has written many hit records for other recording artists. He has also had a successful recording career in his own right. He is best known for his collaborations with Roger Greenaway. Cook's co-compositions have included "You've Got Your Troubles", and the transatlantic million selling songs, "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" and "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress". Wayland D. Holyfield (born March 15, 1942) is a prominent American songwriter and leader in the songwriting community. His music has been regarded as a standard for “honest simplicity” in the Nashville writing community. Personal life Wayland Holyfield was born in Mallettown, Conway County, Arkansas.
