Claire Phillips
Claire Maybelle Snyder (December 2, 1907 – May 22, 1960), also known as Clara Fuentes, Clara Phillips, Dorothy Fuentes as well as High Pockets, was an American spy, entertainer, club owner, and writer most noted for her exploits in the Japanese-occupied Philippines. She was portrayed by Ann Dvorak in the 1951 movie ''I Was an American Spy''. She was also the author of ''Manila Espionage'', a book about her wartime experiences. In 1951, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom. Many of Phillips' statements and claims about spying were later determined to be "without foundation," although in 1957 she was awarded $1,349.21 by the United States Court of Claims in compensation for assistance she had provided to American prisoners of war and Filipino resistance movements. Meningitis
Meningitis is acute or chronic inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, collectively called the meninges. The Oregon World War II Memorial to Oregon veterans of World War II, is located the grounds of the Oregon State Capitol, in Salem, Oregon, United States. Nine memorial plaques recount the stories of action of Oregon Army, Marines, Navy, Air Corps, National Guard, and civilians. A memorial wall records the names of those killed in action. New Bilibid Prison
The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa, Metro Manila is the main insular prison designed to house the prison population of the Philippines. It is maintained by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) under the Department of Justice. As of October 2022, the NBP housed 29,204 inmates, which exceeds its ideal capacity of 6,345. In 1940, the Commonwealth government transferred prisoners to the NBP from the Old Bilibid Prison ( es, Carcel y Presidio Correccional, "Correctional Jail and Military Prison"), in Manila. The remnants of the old facility were repurposed by the City of Manila as its own detention center, known today as Manila City Jail. The , also known as Kempeitai, was the military police arm of the Imperial Japanese Army from 1881 to 1945 that also served as a secret police force.
