Citronen Mine
The Citronen mine is one of the largest potential lead and zinc mines in Greenland. The mine is located in Citronen Fjord, Northern Greenland. The mine has reserves amounting to 100 million tonnes of ore grading 2% lead and 3% zinc. The mine is currently being developed by mineral resources company, Ironbark Zinc. The company has a nonbinding agreement with the China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group to finance and construct the mine. In 2020, Ironbark Zinc executed a letter of interest for a financing loan from the Export–Import Bank of the United States The Export–Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is the official export credit agency (ECA) of the United States federal government. Ironbark Zinc Limited is an Australian Securities Exchange listed (ASX: IBG) mineral resources company focused on the development of the Citronen mine Zinc Project in Greenland. History The Ironbark company listed on the ASX in August 2006 as Ironbark Gold and in March 2007 acquired the Citronen Project. Citronen Fjord
Citronen Fjord is a fjord in Peary Land, far northern Greenland. Administratively it is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. The name of the fjord was given by Danish Arctic explorer Eigil Knuth during the Danish Peary Land Expedition of 1947–1950. It was named after Danish freedom fighters. History In 1993 zinc and lead deposits were discovered in this fjord. They are considered to be the largest yet unexploited zinc deposits in the world and the exploitation of the Citronen mine is in the preparation phase.
