Cinema Of The Faroe Islands
The cinema of the Faroe Islands does not have a long history. The Faroe Islands has a small population, and due to the high initial cost of filmmaking, the islands' cinema history is modest. (On the other hand, writing and book publishing is very popular). The first director of the Faroe Islands was Katrin Ottarsdóttir. Her first film set in the Faroe Islands was '' Atlantic Rhapsody'' in 1989. However, the first feature films in Faroese language with full Faroese castings ("Rannvà" 1975, "Heystblómur" 1976 and "Pall Fángi" 1977) were made in the mid-seventies by Miguel Marín Hidalgo, a Spaniard who stayed for several years in the Faroe Islands. In July 2015, the three films were screened again in the Feroe Islands, at the Nordic House in Tórshavn, with the presence of its author Miguel Marín Hidalgo. ''The Dance'' ( is, Dansinn ()) is a 1998 Icelandic drama film produced and directed by Ágúst Guðmundsson. It is set in the Faroe Islands and revolves around a wedding which is interrupted when a British fishing trawler is wrecked nearby. The screenplay is based on the short story ''Her skal danses'' by William Heinesen from Faroe Islands. It was filmed in the Faroe Islands with an Icelandic cast. Ludo (2014 Film)
Ludo (; ) is a strategy board game for two to four players, in which the players race their four from start to finish according to the rolls of a single die. Like other cross and circle games, Ludo is derived from the Indian game Pachisi. The game and its variations are popular in many countries and under various names. History The Mahabharata Pachisi was created in India in the sixth century CE. The earliest evidence of this game's evolution in India is the depiction of boards on the caves of Ellora. The original version is also described in the Indian epic Mahabharata in which Shakuni uses cursed dice to beat the Pandavas, and at last after losing everything, Yudhisthira puts his wife Draupadi on stake and loses her, too. A mockumentary (a blend of ''mock'' and ''documentary''), fake documentary or docu-comedy is a type of film or television show depicting fictional events but presented as a documentary. Gjógv - Millum Norðhavið Og Skarðið
Gjógv (pronounced , literally: ''gorge'', ''geo'') is a village located on the northeast tip of the island of Eysturoy, in the Faroe Islands and 63 km (39 mi) north by road from the capital of Tórshavn. The village was named after a 200-metre (650 ft) long sea-filled gorge that runs north to the sea from the village. History The village was first mentioned in 1584, but it seems to have existed long before then. It has long subsisted on fishing and selling dried and salted fish (''klippfiskur'' in Faroese). At one time as many as 13 fishing boats sailed from Gjógv. Its population has seen a sharp decline in the past 60 years or so. In 1950 the headcount still stood at 210. A factory producing prefabricated concrete elements was founded in the village in 1982. It employs 6 people and is the only one of its kind in the islands. Færøerne
The Faroe Islands ( ), or simply the Faroes ( fo, Føroyar ; da, Færøerne ), are a North Atlantic island group and an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark.
