Cindy Kolodziejski
Cindy Kolodziejski (born 1962 in Augsburg, Germany) is a contemporary ceramic artist living and working in Venice, California. She has been showing her work in solo and group exhibitions since 1986 in the United States, Europe, and Asia, and is represented in public and private collections domestically and abroad. Work The bodies of Kolodziejski's vessels range from traditional forms such as teapots, urns, and tureens to adaptations of laboratory items such as beakers and separatory funnels. Some pieces are suspended from external frames; others are freestanding. She combines ornamentation from multiple sources, using slip-cast pieces molded from various objects and drawing from a wide variety of periods, styles, and uses. Ralph Bacerra (1938, Garden Grove, California - June 10, 2008) was a ceramic artist and career educator. He lived and worked in Los Angeles, California. From 1959 to 1961, Bacerra was a student at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he studied under the celebrated ceramist and educator and Vivika Heino. Bacerra joined the U.S. Army in 1961, returning in 1963 to find the position of chairperson of the ceramics department at Chouinard left open by Vivika Heino. Bacerra occupied this position there from 1963 to 1971, at which point Chouinard was renamed the California Institute of the Arts and moved to Valencia, California. After this move in 1971, the ceramics department was dropped from the school's curriculum, and Bacerra went to work full-time in his studio. Anthony J. "Tony" Marsh (born May 26, 1954) is an American contemporary ceramic artist who lives and works in Long Beach, California. Career Marsh received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1978 from California State University Long Beach. From 1978 to 1981, Marsh studied as an apprentice under Japanese potter Shimaoka, in Mashiko, Japan. Marsh worked with Shimaoka's shokunin, or craftsmen, on a daily basis and was influenced by the traditional culture of the community, which differed from Marsh's experience of art-making in the United States. After leaving Japan, Marsh received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1988 from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
