Cim, Caernarfonshire
Cim or Y Cim is the name of two relatively small areas of two Caernarfonshire communities in Gwynedd, north Wales. The name means "common land" or "land shared between local inhabitants". Cim in Llandwrog parish is still an unenclosed area of waste and marshy ground, while Cim in Llanllyfni parish has been absorbed into local farms. A local bridge, built in 1612 and still standing, is known as "Pont y Cim". The same place-name element is to be found elsewhere in Wales: for example Cimla, Y Cimdda (Commonland near Llantrisant, (both in the old county of Glamorgan) and Coed y Cymdda on the outskirts of Cardiff Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. Gwynedd
Gwynedd (; ) is a county and preserved county (latter with differing boundaries; includes the Isle of Anglesey) in the north-west of Wales. Llandwrog
Llandwrog (; Welsh language: meaning 'The church of Saint Twrog') is a village and community in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, most notable for the presence of the headquarters of Welsh record label Sain and the site of Caernarfon Airport. It has a population of 2,466, increasing to 2,539 at the 2011 Census. The community includes the villages of Groeslon, Carmel, Gwynedd, Y Fron, Dinas Dinlle, and Cilgwyn. Llanllyfni
Llanllyfni () is a village and a community in Gwynedd, Wales. It is in the historic county of Caernarfonshire. The community consists of the villages of Drws-y-coed, Nantlle, Nasareth, Nebo, Penygroes, Talysarn and the village of Llanllyfni itself. Penygroes, Llanllyfni and Talysarn are almost conjoined. As an electoral ward the 2011 census recorded a population of 1256. It is a largely Welsh-speaking village as 85% of the villagers speak Welsh as their first language. The community covers 43 square kilometres. The river Afon Llyfni (sometimes spelt Afon Llyfnwy) runs through the village. Llanllyfni existed before the slate quarries opened but grew bigger and bigger during the slate quarrying period. In the 2001 census, there were about 650 people living in the village of Llanllyfni. Cimla
Cimla is a suburb of the town of Neath in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. It is set high up on a hill. It is pronounced Kim-la. The Welsh language spelling is Cymla, pronounced the same way. Its meaning is a place with common land, which it presumably (being land on a hill above previous settlement) was until industrial expansion led to its being covered with housing. Cimla consists of a residential area in the western central area, which is part of the built-up area of the town of Neath. The residential area is surrounded to the north, east, and south by open moorland. The whole of Cimla is set on high ground. It is home to the Cimla football club, formed in 1983, who play their games on Cefn Saeson playing fields. English is the most spoken language, with Welsh having minimal use.
