Cigu District
Cigu District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency or Qigu is a rural district in the city of Tainan with about 21,606 inhabitants, situated on the westernmost point of the island of Taiwan. The Cigu Lagoon is located in this township, and an ecological conservation area for black-faced spoonbills is situated on the estuary of the Zengwen River. It was a salt producing area, but now most of the salt products are imported from other counties. History Around 360 years ago, seven settlers arrived in the area from Fujian and built a fish farm. At that time, the area was mostly inhabited. Gradually, new settlers started to spread northwards over the next 80 years. There was only one port at that time and people made a living based from offshore fishing. As the population gradually increased, they began to cultivate the lands near the coast to grow grains and make salt. Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. Huang Wei-che
Huang Wei-che (; born 26 September 1963) is a Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 2005 to 2018. Huang is the incumbent Mayor of Tainan since 25 December 2018 after winning the title during the 2018 local elections on 24 November 2018. Taiwan Salt Museum
The Taiwan Salt Museum () is a museum about salt in Cigu District, Tainan, Taiwan. History The salt mountain was once the largest sea salt field in Taiwan supplying the domestic demand. Due to the declining demand, the salt field ceased production in May 2002. After the production halt, the place was refurbished by Taiyen Company to create a unique landscape of salt mountain. Architecture The shape and the look of the salt piles are strategically designed so that the two piles look like two white pyramids rising out of the salt field. Exhibitions The museum displays salt-related products as well as collection of books and relics about the salt industry in Taiwan. Black-faced Spoonbill
The black-faced spoonbill (''Platalea minor'') is a species of wading bird in the ibis and spoonbill family Threskiornithidae, found in eastern Asia. This species has the most restricted distribution of the six spoonbill species, and it is the only one regarded as endangered. Spoonbills are large water birds with dorso-ventrally flattened, spatulate bills. These birds use a tactile method of feeding, wading in the water and sweeping their beaks from side-to-side to detect prey. Confined to the coastal areas of eastern Asia, it seems that it was once common throughout its area of distribution. It currently breeds only on a few small rocky islands off the west coast of North Korea, with four wintering sites at Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam, as well as other places where they have been observed in migration. Special municipality, historically known as Yuan-controlled municipality is a first-level administrative division unit in the Republic of China (Taiwan). Under the administrative structure of Taiwan, it is the highest level of division in Taiwan and is equivalent to a province. Tainan County
Tainan County was a county in southern Taiwan between 1945 and 2010. The county seat was in Sinying City. History Tainan County was established on 7 January 1946 on the territory of Tainan Prefecture () shortly after the end of World War II. In the early years, Tainan County consists of most territory of Tainan Prefecture except the territory near cities of Tainan and Kagi (Chiayi). The county is subdivide into districts (), which is reformed from Japanese districts (). The districts are divided into townships. On 16 August 1950, another division reform was implemented. The northern part of the county was separated and established Chiayi County and Yunlin County. Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of counties of the Republic of China (Taiwan), along with county-administered cities. After World War II, the townships were established from the following conversions on the Japanese administrative divisions: Although local laws do not enforce strict standards for classifying them, generally urban townships have a larger population and more business and industry than rural townships, but not to the extent of county-administered cities. Under townships, there is still the village as the fourth or basic level of administration. Fujian
Fujian (; alternately romanized as Fukien or Hokkien) is a province on the southeastern coast of China. Tainan (), officially Tainan City, is a Special municipality (Taiwan), special municipality in southern Taiwan facing the Taiwan Strait on its western coast.
