Ciarán McKeever
Ciaran McKeever (born 25 June 1983) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for St Patrick's and at senior level for the Armagh county team. He won a National Football League medal in 2005 as Armagh defeated Cavan in the final by 0-15 to 0-7. Playing career From County Armagh, McKeever played for Ireland in the International Rules Series of 2008 and 2010, and again in 2011 when he was vice captain of the team that defeated Australia by 130 to 65. He was called up for the 2013 International Rules Series ahead of the second Test as a replacement for Finian Hanley who suffered a hamstring tear. He played at Croke Park and won the Series. He is last known to have played in 2022 at the age of 38 when he lined out at full back for his club cullyhanna in a Division 1B league game as they were low on numbers. 2011 International Rules Series
The 2011 International Rules Series (officially the 2011 Toyota International Rules Series) was the 16th International Rules Series contested between Gaelic footballers from Ireland and Australian rules footballers from Australia. The series was played over two test matches, with Ireland winning the series by 130-65 points on aggregate. In doing so, Ireland achieved their greatest ever winning test margin (in the first test) and greatest ever series victory, whilst Australia had their lowest ever test score in the second test. The Australian Football League (AFL) announced part of the schedule for the series in June 2011, with Etihad Stadium in Melbourne chosen for the first test match. In July, the AFL announced that Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast would be the venue for the second test. Kieran McGeeney
Kieran McGeeney (born 18 October 1971) is an Irish people, Irish Gaelic football Manager (Gaelic games), manager and former player, who currently manages his native county, having previously managed the senior Kildare county football team, Kildare county team from 2007 until 2013. McGeeney played football with his local club Mullaghbawn Cúchullain's GFC, Mullaghbawn Cúchullain's in Armagh and also for CLG Na Fianna, Na Fianna club in Dublin. Croke Park
Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Since 1891 the site has been used by the GAA to host Gaelic sports, including the annual All-Ireland in Gaelic football and hurling. A major expansion and redevelopment of the stadium ran from 1991 to 2005, raising capacity to its current 82,300 spectators. Finian Hanley
Finian Hanley (born 4 January 1985) is a former Gaelic football player from Galway. He played his club football with Salthill-Knocknacarra and inter-county football for Galway from 2005 to 2017. He played in the full-back position. In 2008 he was nominated for an All Stars Award. Inter-county In 2005, Hanley was a member of Galway's Under-21 All-Ireland winning team, winning the final against Down with inspired performances from Michael Meehan, Barry Cullinane and club team-mate Seán Armstrong. After being a key figure in Galway's successful Minor and Under-21 teams of recent years, Hanley made his Senior debut against Mayo in the 2005 Connacht SFC Final. 2013 International Rules Series
The 2013 International Rules Series (officially the 2013 Irish Daily Mail International Rules Series) was the 17th International Rules Series contested between Gaelic footballers from Ireland and Australian footballers from Australia. Ireland entered the 2013 series as defending champions, whilst Australia were, for the first time in the series, represented by an exclusively Indigenous team, known as the Indigenous All-Stars. The series was played over two Test matches, with Ireland winning both Test matches to take the series 2–0 and achieve a record aggregate win of 173–72 points. A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. The 2010 International Rules Series (officially the 2010 Irish Daily Mail International Rules Series) was the 15th International Rules Series, contested between Gaelic football players from Ireland and Australian rules football players from Australia. The Series was won by Australia, winning the first test by seven points and the second test by three, thereby winning with an aggregate score of 102 to 92. This was the first time Australia have won the Cormac McAnallen Cup since 2006. Dane Swan was awarded the Jim Stynes Medal, for being Australia best player over the Series, while Colm Begley won the equivalent award for Ireland.
