Church Street, Bangalore
Church Street is a busy street in the Central Business District of Bangalore, India. It is a 750-metre stretch from Brigade Road to St. Mark's Road, running parallel to M G Road. The street is named for St. Mark's Cathedral to which it leads. A tourist hotspot, Church Street is a major shopping and nightlife area. It is also a popular New Year's Eve celebration centre. In 2017, redevelopment work began on Church Street at a cost of 9 crore, which made it the first street in the city to be paved from granite cobblestones. The cobblestones were laid in a Kasuti pattern to reflect Karnataka's cultural heritage. In 2020, Church Street ran a pilot project called Clean Air Street during which the street was converted into a pedestrian zone with a complete ban on automobile traffic. The central business district of Bangalore is the area within a 6 km radius around Vidhan Soudha. This is the center of the city and core commercial area of Bangalore which was founded by Kempegowda of the Vijayanagara Empire. Most of the land is used by commercial establishments and the Indian Army with plans of skyscrapers under works. It has multiple high-rises including World Trade Center Bangalore and UB Tower. Brigade Road
Brigade Road is a large commercial centre and one of the busiest shopping areas in the heart of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka State, India. It is a one-way connecting road from M G Road to Hosur Road, also connecting Residency Road and Church Street on the way. Mahatma Gandhi Road also known as MG Road is a road in Bangalore, India. It runs east from Trinity Circle at one end to Anil Kumble Circle at the other. Known as South Parade in pre-independence era, it was renamed as Mahatma Gandhi Road on 26 February 1948. M. G. Road is also one of the busiest roads in the city and is lined on one side with retail stores, food outlets, restaurants and many more. It has many office buildings, shops and theatres. Cobblestone is a natural building material based on cobble-sized stones, and is used for pavement roads, streets, and buildings. Kasuti ( kn, ಕಸೂತಿ) is a traditional form of folk embroidery practised in the state of Karnataka, India. 2014 Bangalore Bombing
The 2014 Bangalore bombing occurred on 28 December 2014 on Church Street in the central business district of Bangalore, India. A low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED) placed inside a flower pot on the pavement outside the Coconut Grove restaurant on Church Street exploded at 8:30 pm IST, killing one woman and injuring at least four people. The blast critically injured 37-year-old Bhavani. She was taken to a hospital with severe injuries to her skull and succumbed to her wounds. The injured were identified as Karthik (21) - Bhavani's nephew, Sandeep H. (39) and Vinay M.R. (35). Forensics analysis of samples collected from the blast site revealed that the IED contained aluminium powder mixed with sulphur, and residues of potassium nitrate.
