Our Saviour
In Christian theology, Jesus is sometimes referred to by the title Redeemer. This refers to the salvation he accomplished, and is based on the metaphor of redemption, or "buying back". In the New Testament, ''redemption'' is used to refer both to deliverance from sin and to freedom from captivity. The Church of Our Saviour is an historic Carpenter Gothic style Episcopal Church located on Eastport Street between Main and Fulton streets in Iuka, Mississippi Designed by architect James B. Cook, it was built in 1873. Its board and batten siding, steep roofs and lancet windows are typical of Carpenter Gothic churches. In order to prevent its removal, local citizens bought it from the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi in 1985. It is a simple hall church which was extensively frescoed by Mikael Maglakeli in 1140. The church is inscribed on the list of the Immovable Cultural Monuments of National Significance of Georgia. History The church was originally established by the French Jesuits and completed in 1703 near Zhongnanhai (opposite the former Beijing Library), on land bestowed by the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing dynasty to the Jesuits in 1694, following his recovery from illness thanks to medical expertise of Fathers Jean-François Gerbillon and Joachim Bouvet. The Church of the Saviour ( az, Xilaskar kilsəsi; german: Erlöserkirche, also known as the ''kirkha'', from the German word "Kirche" (church)) is a Lutheran church in Baku, Azerbaijan ( 28 May Street), built with donations by parishioner Adolf Eichler and consecrated on March 14, 1899. It is now a Ministry of Culture and Tourism-owned concert hall. The Gothic-style church features a portal crowned with a decorated pediment. While Azerbaijan's Evangelical community ceased to exist in 1936, the church survived the Stalinist period because of petitions to Joseph Stalin in which the petitioners promised, in return for sparing the church, to pray for him till death. The Church of Our Saviour, also known as the Church of Our Saviour at Mission Farm, the Mission of the Church of Our Saviour, and the Josiah Wood Jr. Farm, is a historic Episcopal church and farm complex located at 316 Mission Farm Road, in Killington, Vermont. The Church of Our Saviour, located at 65 East Holister Street in the Mount Auburn neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio. The parish's historic stone church was built in 1877 in the Gothic Revival style. Our Saviour was founded by wealthy residents of the once-affluent suburb of Mount Auburn, about north of downtown. Cincinnati annexed Mount Auburn in 1849. The Church of the Saviour (Syracuse) is a chapel in the Episcopal Diocese of Central New York. It is an Anglo-Catholic Episcopal parish noteworthy for its historically significant architecture and decor, which took shape in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Church of the Saviour was first organized in Syracuse, New York in 1848 as St. James Church. It was only the second church established in the state of New York to have entirely free pews. After a series of fires, the building was replaced in 1891 with one designed by Syracuse architect Asa L. Merrick.
