Christian Kumpf
Christian Kumpf (August 22, 1838 – January 9, 1904) was a German-born politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as mayor of Waterloo from 1879 to 1880 and from 1888 to 1889. He was born in Beerfelden, Hesse. He immigrated to Canada in 1846. By 1852, he was living in Preston. Kumpf worked for Daniel Snyder in his store and post office, eventually becoming assistant postmaster. He was working as a printer by around 1855. In 1860, with John Bowman, he purchased the ''Berlin Chronicle and Provincial Reformers' Gazette'', renaming it the ''Waterloo County Chronicle''. On Snyder's retirement, Kumpf became postmaster in 1862. He purchased the Erb-Kumpf House from Elias Snider in 1869. The Waterloo Public Library (abbreviated as WPL) is the public library system for Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1888, the library has four branches, as of May 2022. Services The three branches offer print and digital resources, programs for all ages. The John M. Harper Branch has bookable study rooms and non-commercial groups. This branch and the Main Library both have rooms for rent for commercial groups. The Main Branch has a VHS tape converter. History The Waterloo Mechanics' Institute purchased their first books in 1876 and stored them on a table in Town Hall. This was the forerunner of the Waterloo Public Library. Beerfelden (pronunciation: ˈbeːɐˌfɛldən) was a town in the Odenwald in the Odenwaldkreis (district) in Hesse, Germany, 28 km northeast of Heidelberg. On 1 January 2018 Beerfelden, Hesseneck, Rothenberg and Sensbachtal merged to create the town Oberzent. Geography Location Beerfelden lies in the Odenwald at elevations from 330 to 540 m. Grand Duchy Of Hesse
The Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine (german: link=no, Großherzogtum Hessen und bei Rhein) was a grand duchy in western Germany that existed from 1806 to 1918. The Grand Duchy originally formed from the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1806 as the Grand Duchy of Hesse (german: Großherzogtum Hessen, link=no). Preston, Ontario
Preston is a community in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario. Prior to 1973 it was an independent town, incorporated in 1915, but amalgamation with the town of Hespeler, Ontario, the city of Galt, Ontario and the village of Blair formed the new municipality of Cambridge. Parts of the surrounding townships were also included. No population data is available for the former Preston since the Census reports cover only the full area of Cambridge, though the combined population of the census tracts covering the majority of Preston reported a population of 20,008 as of the 2016 Canada Census. The Erb-Kumpf House (also known as the Kumpf House and the Abraham Erb House) is a two-storey house located on 172 Waterloo Regional Road 15, King Street South in Waterloo, Ontario, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
